4.12.11 - Indians v. Angels, Fausto v. Haren

Unread postby bookelly » Tue Apr 12, 2011 9:04 pm

Found this little blurb about Fausto and figured I might as well start the game thread,

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Carmona is the first pitcher in 106 years to allow 10 or more runs in his first start of the season and no runs in his next start, with no relief appearance in between. Prior to Carmona, the last pitcher to do that was Dick Harley, of the 1905 Boston Beaneaters.

Lets hope we get to Haren early as he's scary good. Fausto's no slouch though.

This just keeps getting better.

LOS ANGELES OF ANAHEIM, CA—Since the Indians are a consensus Top 10 Most Powerful Power Team, as determined by the power rankings at NBC Sports, MLB.com, and ESPN, team officials are now allowed to forget one thing ever happened. With no deliberation, and before general manager Chris Antonetti could speak, team president Mark Shapiro blurted "Garko in the outfield!"

Call me crazy, but I'd have given Carlos tonight and tomorrow off. Kid's in a slump, that knee doesn't appear 100% healthy from the slide last week. That would have given him 3 days off.

I agree. I hope he gets tomorrow off. REALLY off, not DH or 1B off.

All of Haren's pitches were sharp and moving. I hope Fausto's on.

Not Fausto's sharpest inning but I'll tale it. Hopefully he can get settled in the next few innings.

Only 3 combined hits through 6 innings.
Fausto strong, Haren a little better thus far.

One heck of a pitcher the Tribe was up against. Still sucks to be shut out tho.

Carrasco vs. Carlos tomorrow. I think we'll bounce back and restart the streak at 1

I stayed up til 5am for 1 hit :/

My bet is the Tribe batters Santana tonight.

Since we have a day off tomorrow I'll be happy if Santana DH's today and we have Marson behind the dish.

Sometimes, you just gotta tip your cap. Watched the first inning, said Haren has his filthy stuff tonight and went to sleep.

Always great for Fausto to battle someone like that, only builds more for the future.

Santana only gets the day off if he is hurt. Otherwise, he has to at least swing his way through his slump.

Yep- great stuff and great understanding of how to use it. Fausto is simply a step below that and that's taking nothing away from his effort last night. He was excellent.

Haren's fifth pitch was the difference. That slow curve was in the back of every hitter's mind with two strikes, so they chased the slider all game. The thing about Haren last night was that, when he purposely missed, he purposely missed just outside the zone. Most guys, when they purposely miss, miss the zone by a foot or more.

Haren threw one of the best games I've seen in a long time. So you tip your cap and move on.

Side note: Somebody PLEASE tell Frank Herrmann that there is no rule that says you have to throw 0-2 strikes to everybody. Torii was just off on a couple of those before he almost barreled up the fly out to RF. Waste a pitch or two Frank.

Win the series today. Come home 9-3 and hope the weather forecast changes and the fans represent better.

The forecast for Friday and Sunday is now not too bad, but Saturday looks a bit wet. Friday will be 59 and mostly cloudy, but only 10% chance of rain. And it's $1 Dog Night. I'm certainly thinking about going.

I'm going Friday and Saturday. Monsters playoff game on 3 at Sunday. Already missing Saturday's playoff game, so I'll go to Sunday's. Plus I don't like Kids Fun Day. Kids running around like animals because the parents are too shitty to keep track of them. I'll pass.

0-1 with me going. 5-0 when I'm not there. Direct your hatred at me if we lose Fri and Sat.

Don't worry. Went to the first 2 games and we lost both. I normally sit in the bleachers but sat in the lower reserve those two games. Moved back to the bleachers last Thursday against the sox and we won.

Got my bleacher seats for Friday's game a couple hours ago.
