Tripods, welcome.
Im torn on the Byrd thing. Part of me completely agrees with Pipes. Why worry about a fading vet at the risk of messing with the head of a prized jewel?
Another part of me says that I sleep better at night knowing we have two of the best young pitching prospects down at AAA ... just waiting for the opp.
At the the end of the day, the Indians simply don't have any real overwhelming needs right now. The fact that we are talking about dealing Byrd to upgrade our situational lefty one notch is proof positive of that. And I don't even think of dealing Byrd to an AL competitor. The battle for playoff spots is just too tight.
If everyone is still healthy at the trading deadline, I think you may see the Indians trade Byrd to the NL. The Tribe's needs will be more identifiable, and pitching starved teams will be even more desperate.
Id be surprised if you see Shappie do anything anytime soon though.
