Don't read too much into that gt, I beat up Gibson & his boys pretty good (Josh hitting 1 mealy dinger) and you can see where I'm at, for now.

You should consider Hafner circa 2008-2010 as well. Very inexpensive I'd imagine. In Strat anyway.

The Cleveland Buckeyes had a players-only meeting after getting swept yesterday. Some serious changes are afoot, and there will be a lot of players looking for work if this doesn't get turned around quick, fast and in a hurry.

Just an absolute lack of consistency in Strongsville. And I thought I was getting the good Robin Roberts, not the circa-1964 stiff that couldn't get anyone out.

I know you're not very observant, or quick for that matter peeks, so I'll give you some FYI, there is an expanded standings view. It gives expected standings based on rosters and schedules and it uses some sort of simulation or algorithm. It's not about being better than guys that never played before, my point is that my team is significantly under achieving in the early going. Just a little disappointed for now, I mean I can't play you EVERY series.

2-outs no one on in the 8th turns into a 3-run rally to tie the game at 5-5 for the Purple Capped Warriors. A run in the 10th gives me 2 of 3 from the moustachiod men of motherscratcher.

BTW, I note that in the 9th inning of game 3 the Experience scored a run and had the bases loaded before Biggio struck out to end it. Every morning I open the Sporting News site to see the scores and I scroll down like Charlie Bucket looking for that last Golden Ticket to get into Wonka's house. I cringe when I see a big number from an opponent.

If I take two of three from you knobgobblers I exhale. If I don't I quickly turn my attention to something else and try and avoid this thread all day.

Oh, and despite being out hit 11-3 against Mother in the rubber game of our series last night, I got a 3R HR from Roy Campanella off the Big Unit and a 4-3 series clinching win.

It's leveling out some now but what struck me through the first 30 games or so is just how far behind the pitching was to the hitting. Guess the all time mashers are gonna mash. Never heard of 1911 2B Larry Doyle but holy crap. And Mike Schmidt and Hack Wilson put up freaking softball numbers against the very best.

An abundance of all time great pitchers with ERAs over 5.00 and WHIPs in the 1.6 or above range.

Also stunning is that the 1988 version of Eric Plunk is a goddamn monster. I'm sure he'll revert to his norm but an ERA under 2.00 and second on the team in wins and FOURTH in IPs?

Strange game. But brutally addictive. Last thing I check if I'm up late enough for the games to take place or first thing I check in the morning.

Probably untenable but I live or die with it now. Plunk leads the league in ERA and my next guy on the list at #12 or so is Bob Knepper. Combined salary of the two: <$3m.

My pitching is actually getting better as the year goes on.

Notice no trades taking place. Is that the norm in these leagues/games?

From my experience yes, few trades if any, I think it comes with the territory of a league full of newbies like us. Part of that is also nobody has any money left, so unless you trade straight up =$ there isn't much that can happen.

Trades never happen in Strato. Very rare.

Best part of the game though (which I do still love, despite my 5-7 start in the 90s league and my current bender in this one) ... is what Peeker said. Getting great performances from cheap guys.

Knepper is one of my favorites. He's prolly been a part of 60% of my ATG teams, is on the draft list for like 90% of em. Thought I could sneak him by this inexperienced group low on my draft list.

If you look in the Strat forums on TSN (they're kinda scary) ... you'll find threads dedicated to all kinds of crazy things like which cheap guys are good at which parks, which guys give you the most bang for your buck, etc.
