NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No way to get me to stick around for another league when ridiculous crap like being swept by FUDU takes place.

Nightmare situation.

Makes perfect sense given last 6 weeks though. ;-) ;)

Nothing ruins a week like going 2-4 on Thursday and Friday.

Also, can someone explain how my DH got hurt for 15 games by lining out? Did he line out off of his own head? The guy doesn't even play the field, and he wasn't hit by a pitch!

I'm sure the 2010 version of Grady is available and cheap on the waiver wire.

The 2009 version too.

You should consider Hafner circa 2008-2010 as well. Very inexpensive I'd imagine. In Strat anyway.

The Cleveland Buckeyes had a players-only meeting after getting swept yesterday. Some serious changes are afoot, and there will be a lot of players looking for work if this doesn't get turned around quick, fast and in a hurry.

Just an absolute lack of consistency in Strongsville. And I thought I was getting the good Robin Roberts, not the circa-1964 stiff that couldn't get anyone out.

If I can get the pendulum to swing back in regards to errors, and the Kid gets back to normal I will be right there in the mix.

7 errors in the 8th or later have resulted in 7 losses, give or take giving 1-2 of those games back I'd be right where I'm projected.

I know you're not very observant, or quick for that matter peeks, so I'll give you some FYI, there is an expanded standings view. It gives expected standings based on rosters and schedules and it uses some sort of simulation or algorithm. It's not about being better than guys that never played before, my point is that my team is significantly under achieving in the early going. Just a little disappointed for now, I mean I can't play you EVERY series.

Maybe your boys are playing exactly up to snuff against the competition in the league though Donny. Your hacks didn't earn their numbers against the best ever. This league features the best ever. Ergo you're fellas are doing exactly what they should.

Now, my 1.57 WHIP is clearly an aberration. There I can agree with you.

But I like your moxie (I feel the need to use such words in this league for some reason).

;-) ;)

2-outs no one on in the 8th turns into a 3-run rally to tie the game at 5-5 for the Purple Capped Warriors. A run in the 10th gives me 2 of 3 from the moustachiod men of motherscratcher.

Simple really. Keeping the heat on Speaker City. And it should get better that now that I've dropped the underachieving clubhouse cancer Reggie Jackson for Raul Mondesi's comparable offense and much better defense.

Mondesi was thrilled. "It's the fulfillment of a lifelong dream to play under a skipper like Peeker643" Mondesi said upon his arrival in the PurpleCapped clubhouse.

Suck it mother. :lmfao:

Jumbo's Whitey Ford almost no hits me. Minnie Minoso singles w 1 out in the 9th to break it up. Hershiser throws a 3 hitter. Classic 1-0 pitchers duel eeked out by Santana's Knees.

Wow! A one hitter! That was...unexpected.

BTW, I note that in the 9th inning of game 3 the Experience scored a run and had the bases loaded before Biggio struck out to end it. It would've been a field day for the Knees' version of Buff if they lost. A bullpen meltdown? Only 6 runs on 19 hits? 16 men left on base? It would've been an epic column.

Up to 17-22! Belle almost over the Mendoza Line and out of the doghouse. Starting to come together?

This game is starting to get to me. I've scored 27 runs more than I've given up, but somehow I have the same record in the same division as a guy who has been outscored by his opponents. I'm starting to get angry. Like, wake up/check scores/throw phone across the room angry. Not the best way to start a day.

Dude, if you're going to come here, drop trou, take a giant steaming dump on my team, and then lament the fact that it still somehow smells just as good as yours, the least you could do is call me by my name. It's also easier to check the score, then go to bed.

That way you can justify a belt or two to get to sleep and you don't have to go into work with liquor on your breath.

You're not all that sharp. Maybe that's why you're struggling. :hide:

Oh...I also suggest you talk to Keith Law about all this.

Fuck...how much is a TCF sweatshirt? My strategy of employing dead-ball era pitchers has met with magnificent failure. I have no idea how I can move players as I have no cap room. Fork. Over. Done. :thud:

When I played this in my youth we had a draft. Lineups were;

Cobb
Wagner
Ruth
Gehrig
Hornsby
Shoeless
Robinson
Bench
Big Train Johnson

...or something like that.

This cap thing makes me empathize with Shapiro.

Don't be silly. You have twice as much money to work with as Shapiro, or as he's known to some around here, "the guy who doesn't know baseball."

Genius utilization of the reverse psychology. Nice sweep.

Look at Mondesi jump into the deep end of the pool with a couple HRs in his first two games for the Warriors.

He's already out-performed that hump Reggie Jackson.

Screw the Flying Hellfish. My god! Dropped like 40 runs on me! Even after I set my manager settings to throw every pitch right at Josh Gibsons head.

90's league started last night too. 0-3 start. Loaded my rotation ... and Randy Johnson, Dennis Martinez, and Fran Viola all got shelled.

Not too many feelings more hollow than the 0-6 Strat night. Only losing a loved one and the 0-9 Strat night are worse.

I laugh because it's true.

Although I'd check the scores at the funeral of a loved one if I had 3g service.

Every morning I open the Sporting News site to see the scores and I scroll down like Charlie Bucket looking for that last Golden Ticket to get into Wonka's house. I cringe when I see a big number from an opponent.

If I take two of three from you knobgobblers I exhale. If I don't I quickly turn my attention to something else and try and avoid this thread all day.

Oh, and despite being out hit 11-3 against Mother in the rubber game of our series last night, I got a 3R HR from Roy Campanella off the Big Unit and a 4-3 series clinching win.

Today is already a good day. Screw the headaches. :partyers: :thumb up: :nanner:

Ah, the Jacksons are going right into the toilet with 11 losses in 13 games. It's almost time for the old closed-door meeting.

And I thought I was getting the short-haired Cardinal Ozzie Smith that could hit, not the Afro-puff Padre who would have hit ninth on your average Little League team. .097 against lefties so far.

I just wanted to bring your attention to the fact I swept a 3-game series from The Cleveland Experience last night.

Normally this would be enough news on that subject aside from the making fun of the owner of TCE.

However, the real news is who has assumed a share of the lead in that division (Thanks to his 5-1 record against me and my dominance over TCE). FUDU is Lazarus. After a horrible start he's right in the thick of it.

If not for my own tremendous success this fact would make me a bit sick.

So thank God for my own tremendous success (and now that I've gloated let the injuries and losing streak begin God- because you are vengeful God).

The rest of the division appreciates it. With Frank Howard back healthy starting tonight, and Larry Walker newly inserted into the #5 hole in the order, the Cleveland Buckeyes are primed and ready for a run back to the top.

The Central Division:

Cleveland Flying Hellfish 33-21 .611
Boston Santana's Knees 25-29 .463
Parma Yetts 25-29 .463
Strongsville Jacksons 25-29 .463

Good news: The Knees have climbed all the way out of the cellar and into a tie for second-place.

Bad news: Second place is also last place, 8 games behind the Josh Gibsons...who are are on a 5 game winning streak and threatening to run away with the division.

The East is brutal, but fun, should be interesting all the way through.

Somebody in the Central best make a move quick, or in about a week.5 that thing will be over.

I own peeker (first place in the West) but get owned by Curse (last place in the West), go figure.

No shit. I feel like Baltimore.

It's leveling out some now but what struck me through the first 30 games or so is just how far behind the pitching was to the hitting. Guess the all time mashers are gonna mash. Never heard of 1911 2B Larry Doyle but holy crap. And Mike Schmidt and Hack Wilson put up freaking softball numbers against the very best.

An abundance of all time great pitchers with ERAs over 5.00 and WHIPs in the 1.6 or above range.

Also stunning is that the 1988 version of Eric Plunk is a goddamn monster. I'm sure he'll revert to his norm but an ERA under 2.00 and second on the team in wins and FOURTH in IPs?

Strange game. But brutally addictive. Last thing I check if I'm up late enough for the games to take place or first thing I check in the morning.

Strat is like Xmas for 54 straight days, be good and do your work, the anticipation the night before, and then wake up and see what you got.

If Plunk is 4th in IP that is not good peeker, but spin it anyway that makes you feel better, I know I do.

Probably untenable but I live or die with it now. Plunk leads the league in ERA and my next guy on the list at #12 or so is Bob Knepper. Combined salary of the two: <$3m.

My pitching is actually getting better as the year goes on.

Notice no trades taking place. Is that the norm in these leagues/games?

From my experience yes, few trades if any, I think it comes with the territory of a league full of newbies like us. Part of that is also nobody has any money left, so unless you trade straight up =$ there isn't much that can happen.

Trades never happen in Strato. Very rare.

Best part of the game though (which I do still love, despite my 5-7 start in the 90s league and my current bender in this one) ... is what Peeker said. Getting great performances from cheap guys.

Knepper is one of my favorites. He's prolly been a part of 60% of my ATG teams, is on the draft list for like 90% of em. Thought I could sneak him by this inexperienced group low on my draft list.

If you look in the Strat forums on TSN (they're kinda scary) ... you'll find threads dedicated to all kinds of crazy things like which cheap guys are good at which parks, which guys give you the most bang for your buck, etc.
