2007 All Star Game

Why is the All Star game this year in San Francisco? Last year's game was played in Pittsburgh, forcing the pitchers from both teams to bat. I would be more understanding if the winner of the game (their league) was not getting home field advantage in the World Series, but now that this game has some significancy, this is completely ridiculous. The National League now has the last at bats and their pitchers (who are somewhat used to batting) have some advantage for the second year in a row.

I think the powers that be in MLB are trying to showcase all the new ballparks built in the last few years.

Yea true, since the N.L. cant win, maybe they should play there anyway. San Francisco has its adavantages, I'm sure the Giants are not getting snowed out right now.

I can tell you one thing, that is a great park. One of the nicest places I have ever been to watch a game.

Not 100% certain on this, but I believe they are doubling up the NL All-Star games because when the new Yankees stadium opens in 2009 they wanted to have it there.

Correction, the reason is because they want the final season in the OLD Yankee Stadium (2008) to have the All-Star game. Old Yankee Stadium is slated for the AS Game in 2008.

I wonder if it might be possible for the Tribe/Mariners to make up their games during the all-star break. I guess Grady wouldn't get to play in the all star game but it would make the rest of the year for the Tribe much easier. And we'd have games to watch then.

I have to admit, I'm one of those geeks that doesn't mind this. The MLB All-Star game is one of my favorite sporting events.

Cable, the internet, fantasy baseball has somewhat mitigated its importance. As a kid ... it was the one chance to see all those great NL guys I never got to see play.

Ultimately, just giving WS home field advantage TO THE TEAM WITH THE BETTER RECORD is the best option.

But this certainly is better than the old plan of just alternating.
