2007 All Star Game

Unread postby No Mistake » Mon Apr 09, 2007 6:39 pm

Why is the All Star game this year in San Francisco? Last year's game was played in Pittsburgh, forcing the pitchers from both teams to bat. I would be more understanding if the winner of the game (their league) was not getting home field advantage in the World Series, but now that this game has some significancy, this is completely ridiculous. The National League now has the last at bats and their pitchers (who are somewhat used to batting) have some advantage for the second year in a row.

I think the powers that be in MLB are trying to showcase all the new ballparks built in the last few years.

I never put 2 + 2 together when I heard this years game was at Pac Bell.

You're right, that's pretty damn unfair to the AL.

I guess since we've won 9 in a row (not counting the tie year) ... Selig feels he has to level the playing field.

Yea true, since the N.L. cant win, maybe they should play there anyway. San Francisco has its adavantages, I'm sure the Giants are not getting snowed out right now.

The whole idea of the outcome of the All-Star game impacting home field advantage in the World Series is retarded. All-Star games are more of an exhibition game than anything else. Yes, most players want to win this game, but let's not throw the World Series into the mix.

I can tell you one thing, that is a great park. One of the nicest places I have ever been to watch a game.

And with Rivera to close it out, who really cares if the NL hits in the top or the bottom of the 9th?

This was a once in a lifetime occurence. Everyone just needs to relax and get over it. I mean, is Wedge going to get even dumber by not having these 3 games in Cleveland. The last thing this team needs to worry about is being screwed over by having to play these games at a nuetral site.

Not 100% certain on this, but I believe they are doubling up the NL All-Star games because when the new Yankees stadium opens in 2009 they wanted to have it there.

Correction, the reason is because they want the final season in the OLD Yankee Stadium (2008) to have the All-Star game. Old Yankee Stadium is slated for the AS Game in 2008.

Dear No Mistake,

I found your message signoff to be hillarious.

As for bait I have 2 suggestions: A national title trophy or some part of Ted Ginn Jr.

The former is known to inspire the gators, the later is something they still haven't caught up to.

I wonder if it might be possible for the Tribe/Mariners to make up their games during the all-star break. I guess Grady wouldn't get to play in the all star game but it would make the rest of the year for the Tribe much easier. And we'd have games to watch then.

Did anyone see in today Plain Dealer about the Slow Wave. Eric Wedge said "It locked me up." WTF does that mean, "it locked me up"... is he as stupid as he sounds?

I think it is in S.F. strictly due to Bonds

His chase for Aaron's record, and the fact that this could be the last year that the MLB All Time HR leader ever plays.

ummmmmm, yes

I object!

I think you're too quick to dismiss the very real possibility that he's stupider.

I stand corrected. I do not want anyone to get the impression that I think there is a limit to how stupid Eric Wedge can be. There isn't.

I have to admit, I'm one of those geeks that doesn't mind this. The MLB All-Star game is one of my favorite sporting events.

Cable, the internet, fantasy baseball has somewhat mitigated its importance. As a kid ... it was the one chance to see all those great NL guys I never got to see play.

Ultimately, just giving WS home field advantage TO THE TEAM WITH THE BETTER RECORD is the best option.

But this certainly is better than the old plan of just alternating.
