If Borowski struggles over the next few weeks (and his outing Monday did not reassure me) Shapiro will have to pull the trigger on a trade and get a closer, or see another season go down the drain.

I am open to suggestions.

But in case you don't find one, how would you feel about Eddie Moo getting the shot you ostensibly had reserved for Sipp?

(P.S. -- I don't know if he'd hold up, but Oldberto Hernandez looked like he could be an emergency solution for a short time.)

Let's not put too much emphasis on a closer coming in to get work in with a 9 run lead. He is not the first and won't be the last to get hit in non-save situations. We probably could have cut those runs down to 1 or even 0 had the game been in need of a save.

This Sipp thing is awful. I figured he had a good chance of developing into a 7th or 8th inning guy by mid-year.

I think that Shapiro is still burning the phones for a reliever (closer or not).

The fact that Nook Logan got hurt in Washington means they need a CF (although they arguably still needed one prior to the injury) and could be in the market for a Gutierrez or a Francisco. Rauch and, dare I say, Cordero would certainly add a nice arm to this collection.

Or Jose Cappellan wanting out of Milwaukee?

The Sipp news is indeed bad. Not much of an affect on the Indians this year as he was not likely to be here much this season....but what it really does is set back his development and also he now has virtually no chance of getting some innings in Cleveland in 2007 and build some momentum into 2008. He probably would have been a Sept callup, but still got some work in.

This is a new injury for him.....he had an oblique issue last year.

This is why you need depth.....hopefully this is the last significant injury to the staff this year.

(P.S. Is it a bad omen when Keith Foulke retires on the eve of camp, Cliff Lee and Matt Miller get injurred and start the year on the DL, Sabathia takes a liner off the pitching wrist, and your top closer candidate in the farm is out half a year.....all before game 2 of the season?)

I don't think you can roll Miller in there: that's like asking if it's a bad omen if the atmosphere contains nitrogen.
