Trade?

Unread postby consigliere » Thu Mar 29, 2007 12:24 am

I have absolutely no verification on this, still awaiting, but since we have a small group here thought I would throw this out in advance even if completely unsubstantiated.

Got a tip from someone that says the Indians are in trade talks with the Rangers. Nothing big, but apparently Choo, Francisco and Bear Bay are names mentioned.

I have no idea if this person is pulling my leg, but like I said, I am just throwing this out there. I would usually hedge on posting this, but I do believe that with Goleski returning that the Indians are in fact looking at other trade avenues because of the crowded outfield situation in the upper levels of the system.

Any rumors as to who we're interested in from the Rangers? I'd imagine we'd be going for a Low-A kind of guy or guys unless Shapiro is able to slip Daniels a mickey and get him to take junk in trade for Teixera.

Hell, I'd even throw in Garko with Choo.

Seriously, I could see us going after potential bullpen guys, younger pitching prospects, or trying to fill an organizational weakness. There aren't really any interesting 1B in their system and that's really our weak point when you look at the 25-man and examine the system unless Garko gets the job and/or Aubrey manages to recover and prove he can be counted on.

Still no idea if this is bunk or not, which is why I put the large caveat in my original post.

No idea who we might be interested from on the Rangers roster, but apparently Shapiro IS burning up the phone lines with other teams trying to get another late inning reliever. THat is 100% true. If we indeed are talking to the Rangers, maybe we are talking about Otsuka.

Who knows. But, with Goleski coming back, we will probably need to move an outfielder or two....and Shapiro was quoted by the PD as talking to the Giants yesterday about Benitez.....so thought it was worthy to pass along the rumor as long as I made it clear that I had no idea how reliable it was and if it was just someone pulling my leg.

Wow.

How about that.

Ronald (Bear) Bay was dealt to the Texas Rangers today for a player to be named.

Also, heard another deal may have been made (one of our outfielders).

That was one helluva tip.

I'd say you need to keep that contact in the rolodex Tony. Pretty soon you'll be breaking the stories and ESPN will be sourcing you ;)

Heh.

Yeah, the original tip I got was Choo and/or Francisco PLUS Bear Bay to Texas. No word on who the player we would be getting would be.....but I seriously wonder if it was Otsuka. Shapiro has been burning up the phone lines looking for a setup man, but possible this got nixed because of Gagne going on the DL.

Trade?

Unread postby paulcousineau » Sat Mar 31, 2007 10:55 am

First time, long time...I hate when people say that.

I can't find anything else on this trade, but if the Indians can pry Otsuka from the Rangers for Bay (a decent prospect) and one of their surplus of OF (Gutz or Choo), I'll buy the normal sized jar of Rolaids instead of going to Costco for the industrial one.

You're probably right that the Gagne DL trip put the kibosh on it.

How does that contract to Gagne look now...ahem, Chan Ho Park?

Depending on what is sent out (did I hear Byrd to Houston or a 3rd team in the trade mix), maybe Houston doesn't have to pickup any of Lidge's contract.

Nothing else to report, other than the Indians are still actively shopping some of their surplus of minor league outfield talent. Also, I don't have details or specifics, only an understanding that there was something more to the Texas deal but things are on hold.

Anyway, regarding Lidge, if he is available, the Indians need to make the call. As I am sure they have.

Consig,

I just notcied that Alan Zinter is no longer listed on the Buffalo roster. Did you hear anything??? I know Zinter isn't a developmental guy or someone that Tribe would be looking to call up, but I figured Alan would serve as professional role model and additional coach for the squad.

Tony Sipp still shows up on the Buffalo roster but has no number (I'm assuming he is on the Buffalo DL due to the other news on Sipp).

So there could still be something brewing with the Rangers?? Any thoughts as to what we would be trying to get from them?

Any thoughts on what would be brewing with the Rangers would be mere speculation on my part. I was only informed of the players from the Indians moving, but no word on any potentials coming back from Texas. Considering it was one of Choo/Francisco and Bay, I would think it was a major league player though. And, possible a reliever (Otsuka?).

As for Zinter...no word on that year, but I do know the Indians just signed catcher Yamid Haad, and he is going to Buffalo.....so he could be the one replacing Zinter.

BTW, the Indians Ink board are censoring my posts now. They view us as competition. We are, but that is BS and classless.

Those boards have become crap since they made the move to the new boards. I even prefer cleveland.com to them at this point.

Is Gagne still on the DL? Consig, is there more to this but it's on hold, or is that in a past tense from what you've heard?

Yeah, Gagne is on the Rangers 15-day disabled list. And, in perusing some minor league boxscores the past few days, I could swear I saw him in one. Might be on a rehab assignment.

Just speculation here, but I think something is on hold with the Rangers. May or may not happen, and could be awhile before it even does. The two facts in the whole thing lead me to that assumption: 1. Bay was traded "for future considerations" and 2. we had one or both of Francisco/Choo going there, but something changed last minute which is why it was only Bay.

the perfect trade right now to do is:
Victor
choo
michaels

to AZ for
Chris B. Young (left field)
any LHP for the bullpen

then have this line-up

1)Josh Barfield
2)Trot Nixon(left); Casey Blake(right)
3)Grady Sizemore
4)Ryan Garko
5)Travis Hafner
6)Chris Young
7)Andy Marte
8)Jhonny Peralta
9)Kelly Shoppach

Um ... I don't care what the post-trade lineup looks like, that trade is insane. I like Young a lot as a player, but ... that's just crazy.

I still do not understand why people want to trade Victor. Unless we are floored with a deal, I want him here.

Got some additional info.....

Apparently, the Indians are in fact offering Choo up in a trade talks. He was less than impressive in spring training, taking some horrible outfield routes and looked like he didn't have a clue on the bases. Showed bad instincts, and looks like he got pretty lazy over the last two years. Just not the same guy. (which may help explain why they went out and signed Nixon late in FA.)

I definitely wouldn't mind seeing Choo go. He just doesn't impress me. He Guttierrez, Davis, and Luna all can go away.

Possibly. Although I think he's outperforming that guy we traded for him.

Oh stop. Choo definitely has some issues with the work ethic, but he isn't any worse than Broussard. Also, the other guy we got in the deal, local kid Shawn Nottingham, is a pretty good left-handed pitcher.

I actually still like Choo and hope we don't trade him. I am just saying that he would be overvalued, because when we acquired him hopes were higher.
I think he should be platooning instead of Trot Nixon.
