Hafner with a nice RBI double today. Encouraged me a little. Opposite field, too.

Pronk hit that double really hard. We were sitting behind home plate and that sucker was smashed.

Grady looked fine running and moving around. Saarloos also looked pretty good.

Rundles and Meloan both rocked in the race for the 7th man in the pen.

Brantley continues to impress going 2-for-2.....Grady back in the lineup going 0-for-1 with a BB. As mentioned, hafner 1-for-2 with an RBI double. Shoppach with a HR.... Rondon finished the game off with 2 scoreless innings.

Was also at the game. Was a section way from Shapiro and looked like 7-8 others with speed guns. Hafner looked real good on both at-bats. Brantley is hitting the heck out of the ball, even Garko look good today. I over heard some A's fans joke about Saarloos when he was anounced. Looks like they were wrong, his pitching looked sharp. I hope to make atleast one more game this spring training March 27th against the Giants.

Obviously didn't see it and I didn't listen to it either. Anyone know who Hafner faced and whether either AB (if against more than one pitcher) came against a plus fastball. He's going to need time regardless but my main concern with him in looking at injury vs. bat speed drain is against guys that can get a ball by good major league hitters.

It was either against Wuertz or Tyson Ross, and I don't think either throw that hard. I too, would like to see Travis turn on a good fastball so we know if he's really back. If he can react to the fastball instead of having to cheat on it, he'll be the old Pronk.

Carmona had some troubles in the 2nd, capped off by a 2-out inside-the-park HR after Francisco stumbled somewhat on the warning track.

Fausto didn't look that bad in the 2nd. Got off it a tiny bit but was basically just a few singles then Benny went Boom, lol.

Grady and VMart rocked it. FWIW...that new Dodgers/White Sox complex is gorgeous. Fan access is unbelievable. Saw Manny on one of the back fields and he signed for a while and walked right in front of us.

I see Hafner is 1 for 1 today so far...anyone know if it was a single or was it an extra base hit? Just curious. I just turned on the live audio as the inning ended.

It's way too early yet but so far, neither Barfield nor Marte has stepped up so far to try to win that 25th spot. Aubrey and Giminez so far have been trying hard to push their way into the running. Crowe has been decent but certainly not sensational. Valbuena is writing his ticket to Columbus and Hodges who has no chance of making it is certainly playing well enough to be a consideration if someone gets hurt.

I'll say fact.

Only because if he'd have stayed healthy Aubrey probably would've had as much power as Garko (minimal for the position), but would have been a better hitter for average and a very good defensive 1Bman.

I still think Garko is on his last legs with this team...... Santana likely to be ready in '10..... Vic moved to 1B and Mills and LaPorta on the horizon.

Some pretty terrible pitching by the Tribe this Spring, but the games are meaningless and obviously a lot of the pitchers aren't going all out. Lewis was rolling along before he got tagged pretty hard.

Looks like Lewis left with the bases loaded, 1-out (in his 3rd inning of work - 2.1IP) and 1-run in and Edell allowed all 3 inherited runners to score.

For the 2nd year in a row it really looks like no-one is stepping up to win the #5 spot. It's still early, but let's hope that it turns out like it did in 2008.

Let's look on the brightside..... Jhonny was 2-for-3 and is hitting .600, Wood with a perfect inning, Pavano with a 5:2 GB:FB ratio and, aside from 3 straight hits leading to 3 runs in the 2nd, pitched well! Hafner 2-for-3, Sipp's arm is holding up and, above all, Dellucci was 1-for-2 with an RBI 2B and 2BB! :TCF:

Quit worrying about spring stats. Please.

Especially this early. Guys have set agendas to work on. They are not necesarily trying to get guys out. They want to work pitches and build arm strength.

Arizona is a hitters heaven. Very few pitchers are going to feel good coming out of ST out there. The ball flies. Far. Trust me. I have pitched there. It isn't fun watching the ball carry down there.

I'd be worried about Lee because if we want to contend I think he has to have another stellar year and win 15-19 games for us, and a lot of people think Lee was smoke and mirrors last year. But yeah ST stats don't mean much, doesn't mean you shouldn't pay attention and take notes, though.

Offense looks atrocious today, too...3 hits? Yikes. Doesn't look like anybody brought it today, but our offense has looked decent throughout the Spring so one game of being atrocious isn't worrisome.

Remember, Lee's stats sucked coming out of ST last year. He turned out to have a career year. Not saying all these guys will, or any, just that you can't look at these stats alone.

Looks like actually 4 perfect innings for Laffey.

Anytime his GB:FB is at that level, even though I didn't see it, you have to assume that he was pretty much locked in with his sinker.

For a few days (thru Sunday) i am MartyinArizona...

Laffey was superb today... working fast, getting ahead in the count, groundball after groundball... gotta love it...

Garko's triple was an easy fly that was lost in the sun... Crowe's error was also a sun problem... sun is right in the CF and RF eyes...

Graffanino played RF (in relief of Garko, who started there) and seemed at times to be blindfolded... the sun was TOUGH...

Vic looks good... Hafner I'm not so sure of...

In morning BP, Vic hit a BOMB way out to LC - my son got the ball...

Tomorrow, its on to Peoria vs. Padres... Fausto on the hill... are there midges in the desert?
