Looks like they are trying to sign or acquire in a trade a decent middle infield option to backup Honny. Good move here, as they need someone to push him....and also need insurance in case he flatlines with the team next year.

* The Indians aren’t thrilled with the free agents available to back up shortstop Jhonny Peralta. They are prepared to trade a good prospect for a quality defender who could fill in if Peralta needs a rest or slumps.

Also, more rumors listed:

* Japan’s Hashin Tigers are close to posting left-hander Kei Igawa. If they do, look for the Indians to bid on him.

* Free agent left-hander Jamie Walker, who has drawn interest from the Indians, wants a three-year deal.

* Tribe manager Eric Wedge on free-agent Danys Baez: “We’ve talked to Danys and he wants to close.”
