That was one of the worst soccer games I have seen in my life. Netherlands played dirty, and Spain played like little bitches. The amount of stoppages in play, yellow cards, fake injuries, bad calls, late calls, and frustrated confused looks from the officials were too many to count. The game had no flow and it just flat out sucked to watch.
This was a great World Cup up until that travesty of a game. It deserved a better final. And that final is going to mitigate a lot of the momentum the sport made here in America.
Blah.
Today aside, I became a much bigger fan of this sport over the last month. And I learned a lot about the sport, both from watching, and reading up online. There are a lot of things I like about it, many of which were laid out in Bill Simmons recent piece on the World Cup. Today though, we saw the bad. We saw ALL the reasons this sport has never caught on mainstream in America, and may never.
I think I'm going to start following the English Premier League loosely this fall.
Eff Spain. Effin embarrassment the way those clowns dive to the ground clutching their legs in false agony after slide tackles where the Dutch guy didn't even touch him. If you gotta do that shit to win ... Jesus. To me, just wouldn't be worth it personally if you gotta win like that.
