Cavs/Spurs Game 1 Gamethread

Unread postby consigliere » Thu Jun 07, 2007 4:37 pm

Thought I would get this thread started now....

Man, still over 4 hours until tip. This is maddening.

Anyway, I'm listening to WTAM....reading all the papers.....and man is everyone REALLY playing up the Cavs chances. And, I hate it. To me, it is the perfect formula for a bitch slap in game one where we all have to take a step back and realize this is a fucking good SA team we are playing.

I stand by my prediction for Game 1: Cavs lose by 10+.

But, remember before he call me a hater, I also am predicting a win in Game 2 for the Cavs and we go home 1-1. I just think tonight will get people off Cloud 99 they have been on since Saturday night.

SA is a vet team.

We ain't sneakin' up on them.

We're just gonna have to out play them.

If they win tonight then the city and the fans will go ape.

I don't think they will take tonight's game, but they could. I think the extra rest for San Antonio is not the big advantage some make it out to be. Basketball is about rhythm and long breaks screw that up - just like th scoreboard malfunction did during the game. Also one of the reasons I think the Cavs have struggled in the 3rd Quarter so much - too much time off.

I am going with my theory from the Pistons series. Seemed to hold very true. (not patting my self on back either)

Game 1 is extremely important win or lose.

We just need to show we can play with them, if we do so and lose all is still OK.

I don't see the Spurs as falling victim to the "too much rust" scenario.

I think tonight comes down to the last 6 minutes and FT's.

Tonight, as well as the enitre series comes down to one thing:

This is the NBA. It is basketball. In a 7 game series, the team with the best individual player wins, as long as the rest of his team plays hard, smart and with confidence.

The Spurs have no answer for LBJ. We have Z, Andy, Drew, Yell, and Pollard to smack Tim Duncan around on the back of the head for 7 games. He is a 68% FT shooter and we have 30 fouls to use.

Tony Parker is the only Spur that concerns me, but I think he is the type of guard that Boobie can defend. He is not strong enough to take him to the block and he does not run around off many screens.

The Spurs have already begun the crying about all the attention LBJ is getting. Bruce Bowen has already began to "talk down" about LBJ. I think this is a mistake by all of the Spurs. They are talking about how well Mike Brown and Dany Ferry know them, so they can't understand why they are favored so big. Excuses prior to game one are usualy a bad sign.

These Cavaliers believe anything is possible, because they have #23. They have it in their walk, their talk and their play in Game 6. They know if they play well, they have the single best player in the world to bring them home. Duncan cannot take over a game, because he needs someone to get him the ball. LBJ can take over, whenver he wants.

I am sooooo fired up for this game and this series!

I LBJ wants to be "Like Mike" he has to win this series, because Mike never lost a Finals. I think we see an even more morivated Bron tonight and all series!

OK Duncan is not foul proof refs.

He has had at least one if not two.

LeBron is catching and surveying too much again.

About freakin time.

He had the lane last time down after catching it above the foul line and yet he waited 5 seconds to do nothing. Just don't get it.

OK this is getting pathetic now.

No call on SA but we get a cheap call?

BS.

Do something with the ball LeBron JFC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He should be killing these guys right now.

6-18 from the field, 4 turnovers. And we haven't got one call.

Down just five. I'll take it.

We need better movement by our guys on offense without the ball. It's all drives into sturdy defense, thrrowing up prayers.

And they need to figure out who is going to guard Parker. Duncan exposed Z early on pick and rolls as well.

James needs to get lower on the block with Ginobli on him, if so it is 45 points as easy as they come.

Agreed, but apparently Ginobli can shut down LeBron. WTF?

I'm just pissed b/c as bad as we have played being down 1 we should be up a few buckets.

IMO LeBron is not using his head so far.

Cavs have the Spurs to 0 points this quarter, and frankly the Spurs are starting to look like crap. Giving up easy steals, garbage fouls, etc. It's looking good for Game 1.

The early offensive foul has some second-guessing, clearly. Just biding time right now. He doesn't want to play with foul trouble. He's still trying to figure out how he can best go at these guys.

Giving up 2 points in 5:56 is pretty sweet. The Cavs offense might not be clicking, but their defense is totally doing the job right now.

I mean as good of D as any team in recent years kind of D.
