Woj just tweeted that the Cavs are out as part of a 3+ team deal. Almost like they were asking for more than anyone was willing to pay contrary to all the reports from the national guys over the last couple days. But I'm sure the holdup was just that HUMP, as a UFA, was unwilling to sign a 1 year contract. I'm sure that the reporting was correct and it was just a shock to all 3 GMs involved that the Cavs only wanted him for 1 year and that he was unwilling to sign for only 1 year.

And EE you're right I couldn't find a request for multiple 1s from the Cavs. But Windy and Co. at ESPN was reporting that they wanted 'multiple assets' in addition to Humpty. Since I do not think anyone considered the salary cap throwins being talked about that mean that they wanted more than just the #1. Maybe the 3 mil sweetner was enough of an asset? Or maybe they wanted more picks or different players?

Sounds like he was clearly sourcing the Cleveland FO.

They were apparantly the only team even willing to consider being part of this deal and the other FOs are pushing out terms to national reporters and saying that Cleveland is holding it up using a BS reasoning that anyone would have considered a holdup from day one (HUMP signing for 1 year).

Yet they're developing a bad rep.

I have no doubt in my mind Bucher is schilling for an agent there (probably Fegan who reps Andy, HUMP and Dewey), it is all he ever reports.

I do not believe the three most reliable and best in the business (including three reporters that CRUSHED the owners during the lockout) are schilling for the owners.

And I don't think Cleveland is being annoying to deal with, I think HUMP wants more than one year and that is the issue at hand.

And Fegan's split interests between Dewey and Hump massively complicates the entire "HUMP Takes 1 Year OR RUINS THE TRADE!!!!" angle.

Not to mention the Andy overlap.

Also, if you want to bring up schilling out... Jason Lloyd at the ABJ has become completely intolerable. Guy had zero sources as recently as last year so I offered himself up as a franchise mouth-piece and is one of the single least reliable beat writers out there. I'd prefer the nothing of the PD.

I don't think shilling is the right word. They are simply reporting via the best sources they have. If they're closed out of Cleveland but hearing from Orlando and Brooklyn then why wouldn't they report?

Besides with crowdsourced reporting in addition to all of the hacks out there they don't exactly get to sit on multisourced stories that will bring readers to their respective sites. When the sources blast the info out as widely as they did they have to report it. While they are better and looking past the crap they still have jobs to do.

Right but why would anyone be surprised that he wants more than one year? So either the Cavs said we'd take him and a protected 1 for one year, when he did the expected and balked, they probably said either the teams sweetened the pot more or they pulled out. Which is pretty much what everyone on the first page of this thread said they should do. I doubt it changes anyones mind about the FO but it is what it is.

And for the most part the people who do have access to the Cavs FO seemed to be reporting that the Cavs were pretty much expecting that the deal wouldn't be consumated even while it was being reported.

No one has access to the Cavs FO anymore but the releases faxed to Lloyd and the occasional time Windy flies to Cleveland.

Again, you cannot act like these reporters are dumb enough (especially the first three to report it, as they have serious reps to protect) to just cater to certain front offices and ignore others. Especially when it was all of those three and they were all the first three to break the story.

Fegan is playing a huge role in all of this and most certainly playing huge games behind the scenes with both HUMP and Dewey.

All this sounds like the Nets were desperate to get the deal done, contacted Cleveland because of its cap space and penchant for accumulating draft picks and the Cavs responded by demanding more than the Nets were willing/able to give them.

Orlando was getting garbage back in this deal and probably wanted at least 4 first round draft picks plus Brook Lopez and Cleveland's demand to get back at least one first, as well as demanding that Hump take one year guaranteed eventually submarined it. No way Orlando was OK with Cleveland getting multiple assets in that trade which otherwise could go to the Magic if they make a deal with someone else.

Looks more like Howard could end up as a rental if he doesn't come to his senses.

BTW: my bad, Grant did move to Cleveland immediately in 2005 so the only draft he was at his peak assistant GM title off in Atlanta was Josh Smith (who fits his jump high run fast mold too a T).

The other picks in the Aughts when he had attained at least some level of power:

2003: Boris Diaw (#21)

2002: Traded at some point in the Glen Robinson deal

2001: Traded Pau Gasol (#3 pick), Lorenzon Wright and Brandon Wright for Shareef Abdur-Rahim

2000: DeMarr Johnson (#6)

So I don't really know what the story there is, except picking Josh Smith was like picking a much better version of TT.

You can argue how much you want to attribute pre 2004 picks to him, so if you just stick with that line he has hit on Kyrie and Josh Smith, with the jury still out on TT, Waiters and Zeller. If you go back a year I'll give him Diaw.
