At this point, I'm just waiting for Kobe to smack LeQuit upside the head with the Larry O'Brien and run off backstage with Miss Elizabeth.

Wow anyone else smell a fix for the Lakers. The NBA owns the Hornets so it is only right they get Chris Paul to make sure the Lakers stay in the elite of the league. It is now a 3 way anyways. The ROckets get PAu Gaosl and the Hornets get Scola, Martin, Odom, and Dragic.

Just waiting for the Hornets to give Gasol to the Heat for Haslem and Joel anthony then maybe Lebron could finally win something. What a joke the NBA has become.

Looks like a decent haul for the Hornets. All four of those guys for Chris Paul? They can probably flip Odom for something else. No way he wants to be there.

Hearing down here that the owners will kill this deal. They thought it was fishy that a league run team would deal to the lakers when at least 3 other partners were offering legit options as well. This is going to get interesting.

no way we get comparable value on another deal for cp3. he's going to play 60-something games half-assed and we'll be lebron'd in the offseason.

Yea these fucking owners should've made a stand on issues that are allowing this shit. No they got their split and monies, so they don't give a shit.

According to Yahoo, Gilbert was one of the driving forces in killing the deal. Can't believe his rage is still this intense/blind. Did he not stop to realize that this was a pretty fair return for a guy who was leaving in four months?

why the hell would Stern listen to him? being serious. seems like he'd be thought of as a joke by the league.

I'm all for helping small markets and putting up reasonable roadblocks for these superteams, but the owners don't have a leg to stand on in this case. It was a very fair price and LA/Houston may have even overpaid considering what the Nets are about to steal Dwight Howard for. Plus he openly admitted that he was gone in four months, what the hell else are they supposed to do? Shouldn't this issue have been resolved during the lockout if they were so pissy about it?

I think the piece that hits home is if the Lakers did clear payroll and New Orleans added payroll. Seeing as Dan Gilbert is on the hook for paying a portion of that payroll he should have the right to agree or disagree with it being added.

Fair point but I think that's a copout for Gilbert. He and the other owners like him just wanted an excuse to rail against superstar movement. I hate the superteam stuff as much as anyone but it's hard to make that argument amidst a fair basketball trade. If money was the big issue, they could have just tweaked the trade behind the scenes (i.e. someone taking on Okafor as well). Plus Dell Demps was supposedly given full authority, pretty lame to undermine him after the fact.

Didn't they just come off a lockout that was being perpetuated by miser mid-market owners? I don't know how the votes went down, but the damning piece is they choose money over parity. The "system issues" have done nothing to stop this bullshit. If anything this short term window of lax tax rules and amnesty is opening the day for major exploitation.

Put me in the camp that Stern had an inkling had this went thru his termination papers may have went thru within days later. (especially after Howard left town and Orlando management jumped on the mid-market owner bandwagon)

He may not have known about this email but I bet he already heard thru the pipeline via some communication that a majority of his bosses were none to pleased.

I'm not really sure why Houston does that deal, unless they're in full tank mode. But then why give up one of their 1st rounders?
