Those NBAPlaybook breakdowns are the greatest things going. Wade playing so far off Kidd allows Terry to make the easy pass and gives Kidd the comfort to survey and pick the right option.

classic.

Don't think I'd ever see a letter like this for a cleveland sports team, or for that matter one in pittsburgh, nyc or boston.

The sheer gravitas displayed by Simmons in naming the site after Grantland Rice is either the height of arrogance or the height of self deprecation.

per what I read on deadspin it was actually named after a brand of type, and it was a name encouraged by espn, fwiw.

ESPN's own press release says otherwise
http://www.espnmediazone3.com/us/2011/04/28/writers_editors_join_espn/

There is also a Grantland Rice quote on the masthead. Not sure where the confusion lies.

The name of the site honors the legacy of Grantland Rice, the legendary sportswriter who helped elevate sports into American culture during the early 20thCentury.

Its actually tolerable, Windhorst went right off of the Heat Index reservation and Goldhammer was mute for most of the conversation.

THis might just be my unabashed hatred for LBJ here, but doesn't it look like the Heat are a better offensive team with James on the bench? They move the ball a lot better, and with him and Wade on the court at the same time the offense is very stagnant.

You can say a lot of things about LBJ.

Saying that the team moves the ball better without him on the floor is not one of them.

It may be the most untrue thing ever written on these boards.

He is rushing his shot a bit tonight, but you are still insane.

I mean do you want to start counting the words that have been written since game 2 about LBJ deferring and passing the ball too much?

I'm out of the country so I can't watch the game but I noticed that Miami's big 3 minutes in the first half are down a lot vs the previous game. Spo must be resting these guys to try and prevent another Q4 colapse?

Heat went on a run when LBJ started his rest. Resulted in his longest rest of the series.

Also resulted in ridiculous "THE HEAT ARE BETTER WITHOUT LBJ" analysis.

Similar to the insane "Is Jason Terry the series MVP" talk that is starting up now with Dirk having a bad half.

All yielding my head exploding.

Just because james is deferring his shot to the pass doesn't mean the ball movement and offense aren't better without him on the court. My point is based on a qualitative observation that the Heat offense is more active when he is not there.

I did not say the Heat are better without James. James and Wade are both guys that like the ball in their hands, the difference is that when Wade doesn't have the ball he moves more. When James doesn't have the ball he is generally standing around on the wing. He doesn't play in the post, ever.

The heat are a much better rebounding and defensive team with him on the court, but the offense seems to be stagnant when he is out there. That "Terry for MVP" thing is lunacy. He has had a great series, but there is no question who Dallas' MVP is, just like there is an awkwardness to the Miami offense when James, Wade and Bosh our out there.

I still think you are insane. LBJ has had 1,000 great set ups and dishes this series. Even playing as poorly as he is right now he has played PG better than most PGs in the league. And the cross-screen offense as well as the slip screens have been run to perfection by him (now, why Miami quit running them is another issues altogether).

LBJ is playing poorly. Replacing him with Mario Chalmers does not result in a more fluid offense. it just doesn't and it never has and never will. You are basing your analysis off of one half of basketball where Eddie House went bonkers.

LBJ's stats don't look superstar level...how does he look on the court though? Involved in the game or like he did in game 4 and the boston game last year?

Point of emphasis: this is LBJ's first rest of the second half during this series. He is a mess right now and choking his life away. But your broad stroking statement still is not true.

Things are looking good for the Mavs, and I think our discussion about LBJ and the Heat's offense may be moot here as I think the NBA season is just about over.

Maybe the offense will seem more fluid next year!

Nice call on the Mavs in 6 Lee.

And I get your point Furls. I'm just saying that there are 10+ minute stretches here where the Heat offense is unreal and it revolves around LBJ setting the play and scorer up.

All of that is gone now though. The Heat have had success with LBJ in the post, LBJ on the cross screen and running the slip screen with the bigs. They have done none of that since what feels like the 6 minute mark of the 2nd quarter.

The more I "witness" him in these finals the more I realize that maybe he wasn't the savior we thought he was 8 years ago. I am not saying that we are better off without him, I am just saying that there is enough evidence out there to say that he does not have the heart or will of a champion.

Stage. < 20 4th quarter points this entire series (he at least had that unreal game three last year against Boston). The D for Miami is now falling apart. This also makes last year no longer a did he quit question and opens up a whole can of "WTF is going on w/ his psyche" worms.

Glad Nowitzki made that last shot but he must be having a really bad shooting night huh? Gamecase says he is 8/26 from the field.

I rarely make predictions about series or seasons. Too many moving variables. This one just felt so right. I'll take my bow now. Fitting end to one of the best Finals ever. The better team just stepped on the Heat's throats and didn't let up.

As Dwyer said on Twitter - Dirk was about 20 inches away from a 40 point lead. Balls were half way down and coming out for him all night.

So, I will ask the dumb question, can the Mavs repeat? They got a lot of guys that they need to resign in order to get there
