Andrew Clayman on the Skills Challenge

Unread postby peeker643 » Fri Feb 18, 2011 4:51 pm

Just read it: http://bit.ly/hlqNVE

Of course, like most people, I have my favorite Taco Bell NBA All-Star Skills Challenge memories. With this year’s event back in Los Angeles, for example, it will be hard not to think of Baron Davis triumphantly out-dribbling Earl Boykins at the 2004 competition at Staples Center. I think we all remember where we were on February 16, 2008, too, when Deron Williams shocked the New Orleans crowd by narrowly breaking Steve Nash’s course record of 25.8 seconds. Deron’s mad dash through those final suffocating cones—punctuated by a thunderous lay-up—got him in the winner’s circle at 25.5 seconds. But more importantly, it solidified his legend as one of the greatest pro athletes of all-time.

I can remember when my kids were little, their only little victory was getting to stay up late on all-star Saturday night to watch the festivities. 'Twas a tradition.. I don't think they cared really but it was the idea that dad told mom "the boys get to stay up". Christ the only sport they watch now seriously is MMA despite both being above avg. baseball players.

Where the F did I go wrong? Don't get me wrong they'll sit with most Buckeyes football game for a while, and once a year we seem to watch a Browns game in a bar, but that's it. Yet every year we'd pile around the TV to watch this crap. Truth be told I always liked Charles during the weekend show.

No. In reality, he put up a 22. But as a continuing conspiracy theory, Stern had the tape of the 3-point shootout altered to show him missing all those shots. Because fuck the Cavs.

All Star Saturday Night pales in comparison to the NBA H-O-R-S-E competitions at halftime of the NBA on CBS.

Kind of strange, at least for a Cavalier fan, that this year's ASG is as interesting an any in recent memory, with the whole 7 of 12 ECA being members of Celts/Heat AND Blake blasting on the scene in his first try. Really think that kid has the potential to be LBD's long time physical rival.

The horse competition could be amazing if they would let Monta in. Instead we got to watch Rondo....

And if you couldn't get entertainment out of watching Bieber two hand push jump shots on Friday Night you have no sense of humor. That was pretty much the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen and I loved every second of it.

Used to think lefties had the prettiest jumpers, then Obama came around and now Bieber....
