Wonder where this franchise falls in terms of Worst Ever when you look at the timeframe of its 40+ years of existence.

I mean, but for the MoR year, a couple years with a healthy Price/Daugherty/Et al and maybe 4 really solid LBJ teams, you might legitimately be looking at about 32 years of squalid play, ridiculously incompetent front offices (that had rules designed to combat their blatant awfulness) that could lead you to believe and put forth that this might be one of the worst franchises in sports over the past 40 years.

Could you at least make that argument?

Wire to wire you could make a real argument that it's the sorriest franchise ever. From drafting to just colassal mistakes, to the league changing the rules.... at least the Clippers ownership doesn't even try. The Cavs are actually trying to win.

The Detroit Lions. At least the Cavs have seen the NBA Finals during our lifetimes.

2004-05 Hornets started 2-29. That was Byron Scott's first season with them. (Though he didn't take over til they were like 1-15.)

Cavs have been irrelevent pretty much their entire existence. LeBron made them the focus of the basketball world. The Miracle of Richfield was a mediocre team that got lucky. The Price/Daugherty/Nance years were some good teams, but there's been a lot of good teams in the NBA.

Take away the LeBron years and the Cavs have won 35% of their games and are 4-14 in playoff series. Don't feel bad, though. The Bulls have also been a largely irrelevent franchise outside the Jordan years. They have won 35% of their games sans Jordan, and are 4-15 in playoff series.

Moral: get a superstar or you don't exist.

While this is true, it goes waaaay beyond this.

The number of incidents that are just an absolute joke are unparalleled. Shit that went well beyond stupid draft and free agent moves.

You could argue they've had two days that gave them ANY worth in the past forty years, and one of them - the ping pong ball that everyone in the world knew, Ahem, was going to send a local to his hometown. The other of course was the Daugherty, Hot Rod, Harper and Price draft day.

Think about it. Those two days were EVERYTHING that the franchise ever had.
