Gregg Oden

Should the Cav's go for him and offer a contract Portland won't match providing he's got a clean bill of health ? After all it might cut some time off of the rebuilding years.

Personally I would not be stunned if Oden never played in as many as 50 more NBA games.
His recent patella fx was bad by all standards given the fx went the entire length of the knee cap and wasn't just a piece/part fx.

I doubt a a man that big with a fx surface area of the entire left knee cap and right knee micro fracture sx under his belt is ever going to get a clean bill of health.

Antonio McDyess comes to mind as a big guy who had a productive career after multiple major knee injuries. And let's not forget Z's feet after 2001. It can happen. But odds are against it.

However, Oden is still a 7-footer with bulk. If the Cavs can get him for MLE-type money for three years, I don't see the harm. The Cavs need starting center candidates. Not like 7-foot centers -- even ones with Frankenstein kneecaps -- grow on trees. 7-footers are the LHP's of basketball. If you can walk, you can get a tryout somewhere.

Some team will give Oden a chance. Might as well be us.

Oden did not have his option picked up, but will remain a restricted player. Hard to sign those guys.

Who will play more NBA games in the next 18 months, Oden or Delonte?

Portland will match any MLE offer for Oden, guaranteed. Only way they don't match is if a team offers something crazy.

That said, a healthy Oden would be a steal at pretty much any price. Guy was averaging 11/8.5/2.3 in 24 minutes a game last year before he got hurt. Really could be the best center in the league if he had some bionic knees.

Odds are very high that Portland won't give up on Oden, specifically because he has the potential to be a great center if his knees ever hold up. The Blazers won't just cast a No. 1 pick adrift.

The added incentive for Portland is that they passed on KD to take him. They'll give Oden repeated chances to become Hakeem Olajuwon instead of Sam Bowie.

The only way you might be able to pry Oden from the Blazers is via a trade, and then only if the Blazers think they have a legit NBA Finals shot. If Oden is still rehabbing and Blazers are in win-now mode, in need of players who can help them make a title run this season, maybe they'd be willing to trade a potential future piece like Oden for a present piece. But it would have to be a slam-dunk final piece to the puzzle kind of player.

If that's the goal, can we trade JJ Hickson and Andy for him now?

Threw this same link into the existing Oden thread earlier today so I'll merge this one into that.

Feel bad for the guy, he can't even get on the court to show what he can do. I don't think NBA teams give out contracts for rolling around on the ground in pain. (insert T-Mac joke here)

Unless a miracle happens and he gets new knees, I think he's done.

Naw just making fun of how easy a thing to "predict", honestly who here thought he'd play anything close to a full season. Bummer story but I feel little sympathy for the dude, he might never play again, just too much of a damaged product.
