Nice entry in the basketball blog today from TSG:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/bl ... me=simmons

And I'm right there with him on Bron going the wrong direction at his early fork in the road.

I'm not a huge Simmons fan, but he is one of the better columnists around. And hysterical.

That was a great, great column.

Listen, I can totally understand why any Clevelander would hate Simmons. He's been historically ruthless on the city, and lately ... LeBron. I hate the GD Red Sox about as much as any team on the planet. And the incessant pop culture references are really annoying to a guy like me that only watches "24" and the HBO shows.

But the man can write. And he knows the NBA as well as any columnist out there.

And as a huge fan of the NBA, as well as sports journalism, I can't help but read the guy.

Sometimes I feel a little dirty about it though ...

Bill Simmons is the best at what he does, but he is WAY wrong about LeBron here. You give me the top 20 scorers in the NBA and then tell me one of them that tries to do more to get teammates involved. If the rest of these stiffs could hit an open 18 footer, he would average close to 10 assists a night, while scoring 30.

OJ Mayo

Unread postby jdrake10 » Fri Mar 30, 2007 8:52 am

That link does not go to a LeBron James article any longer? It is now about OJ Mayo. Speaking of tools... I agree with Simmons. OJ Mayo is already my least favorite basketball player and he is still in high school. I hope he fails miserably. He is too talented to fail on the court so I will have to hope he robs a liquor store or something.

Simmons thinks the whole sports world revolves around New England. I find him funny at times, but mostly he's a whiney "know-it-all."

He wrote an entire article for ESPN the Magazine about Holy Cross hoops. Just sayin.

Nothing Bill Simmons says about LeBron contains a shred of insight or wisdom. It's hater-ation, pure and simple. Any Cleveland fan who reads TSG's hatchet jobs on LeBron and agrees needs to check his C-Town self-loathing at the door. Bill Simmons can go fuck himself.

BTW, I'd have a lot more respect for TSG's LeBron takes if he ever actually made specific criticisms of holes in his game. But it's always slams on his lifestyle, on his associations, on his supposed lack of clutchess, and on his supposed lack of desire. Guy has slammed LBJ over and over and over- and he's never even mentioned the man's free-throw problems. To me, TSG is trying to replace Peyton Manning as his number-one target for ridicule, and he's found it.

True, and that it doesn't take as freaking long for LBJ as it did for Peyton.

As long as he is in Cleveland when he gets it done, it can take him 9 years.

Gee, I guess I'm suffering from short term memory loss, but I had thought not too long ago the knock on LeBron was he passed too much, wouldn't look for his shot, needed to step up, needed to take over games, blah, blah, blah. I like Simmons, but his "Bron bashing grows tiresome.

Simmons is part of a larger media group that thinks it just isn't right with LeBron being in Cleveland and all.

LeBron and the Cavaliers could win 60+ games for 3 straight years while winning the NBA crown each time and most of these guys would still say LBJ should be in NY or L.A.

I know a lot hate the guy, but this might be the best comment on LBJ, ever. From The Sports Guy:

2. When LeBron James hosts the ESPYS in July, should we expect him to mail in the first hour of the show and then turn into Chris Rock during the second hour?

The best recent Cavs blip Simmons had was his buddy recalling the last Cavs/Celts tilt, the one Lebron sat out. His buddy is sitting courtside and Lebron emerges from the locker room area after the half, but like already a few minutes into the third quarter. He says Lebron walks out in his suit, walks over to the bench and there's no seats available. He stops in front of David Wesley and stares at him for a few seconds. Wesley gets up and sit IN THE SAME SEAT with Damon Jones until the quarter ends. Classic.
