Glad to see that Boston isn't getting the Butler/Jamo transformational uber-deal that they crave.

I'm curious to see whether this trade, if it is finalized, increases or decreases the chances of a Jamo deal. I still think right now that this means the Wiz will retain Jamo for at least the rest of the season.

scary??? naw, just the mark of a very desperate team with a fading star looking to catch lightning in a bottle one last time before they fade to bolivia. will this deal get dallas to the western conference finals??? probably. will it bring them an nba title??? doubtful. their window of opportunity began to close when they flamed out in the first round against golden state a few years ago. i still thank gawd the cavs never did complete a trade for j-kidd as was rumored a few years back.

They got 2 legit rotation players for a guy whose been underachieving the last couple of years. Haywood gives them extra size and tougness to bang against the soft Lakers. This definitely puts them into the top of the Western Conference class with the Lakers and Nuggets.

Game 7 of the NBA finals, Dallas vs. Cavs, Cavs up 2, final seconds, last Dallas possession involves DeShawn Stevenson jacking it from 3, looking for a chance to do the "I can't feel my face" and LeBron throws it right back down his throat. Stevenson crumbles to the ground, LeBron stands over him like Muhammad Ali in the classic photo, mutters: "Who's overrated now, bitch?"

I would spontaneously orgasm to the point of dehydration.

Admittedly, DeShawn Stevenson taking the last shot of an NBA finals is a strategic impossibility, but dammit wouldn't it be fun if it played out that way?

Seriously, though, this trade makes Dallas a lot better. A lot. Howard's a proven malcontent and played his way down to almost the spare-part category, which is where the others are. Maybe not Gooden. Maybe. Their team got a lot tougher with Butler, and Haywood gives them a big to throw at the Lakers. I just wonder, like everyone else here, what it means about Jamison.

this trade really doesn't scare me even a little bit. dirk has, is, and always will be soft as cottonelle, kidd is still old, butler for howard is almost a wash, heyward has always been an under-achiever, and deshawn stevenson? don't make me laugh

I still have them below LA and Denver (and probably Utah). Butler is a pretty good player, but I'm not sold on him being the difference maker they need. He's shooting 42% from the floor, which is very bad for a forward. It's bad for a guard, honestly.

This deal does make them tougher and gives them another solid big, but without making a significant upgrade at SG I don't see them as having a legit shot at the title this year.

I don't think Utah is as good as they are currently playing, but they can beat Dallas too I think.

There star is declining? Dirk is sick right now, just sick. Between him and LBJ for who I want taking the last shot and it has been that way for a while.

The Mavs are legit and Kidd is the perfect point for the team they have put together. The current run doesn't have lot of years in it, but this team could be very good.

And Haywood is having a very good year, quietly in Washington.

Love this trade for the Mavs. Anyone dogging it is missing the boat on what the Mavs were before the trade.

They are "in the discussion" now, IMO.

I still think they are #3 in the West but the gap is much smaller. One injury to LA or Denver and I would hate to be facing that Dallas team if they can click at all.

I've been wanting to throw that out there for a while now, figured the timing was about right.

I've always been a huge fan of Dirk.

Honestly Dirk's offensive game surpasses Bird's, no doubt about it, but Bird was too good a passer and actually tried on defense even if he wasn't good at it. Bird's competitive nature was also second to well maybe no one. Bird was one of those players that was easy to hate when he played, impossible to hate since.
