Lakers showing some flashes of how they can dominate this Celtic team, even with Kobe being a bit banged up. Some pretty damn nice shots by Kobe early on.

Rasheed, so much talent yet so lazy. Gasul doing a great job of poking to get Sheed all fired up.

Memo to Garnett, if you're gonna talk trash you best not do it to the one guy on the court that can dunk it on your head.

If Celtics don't get their act together this one could get out of hand early.

ETA: Wow what 2nd quarter turn around for the Celtics. Rondo with a superb effort in the first half.

That certainly was almost the tale of two game no?

Looked like the Celtics were going to mail it in, real early, then they got down to it. As well as Boston ended up playing that loss hurts them, especially their ego IMO.

I would have preferred for Boston to win so we can work that best overall record.

That said, this Celtics team may be better off to shut Garnett down for a month and really monitor the minutes of Paul and Ray.

I'd play Rasheed a ton just to try and get that fat son-of-a-bitch in shape.

They are probably still good enough to milk things into a 4-seed or something but they need to get right rather than play things out, IMO.

Taking that beat writer for the Lakers with a grain of salt though. He should be more concerned with what happened with Pau Gasol down the stretch and the fact this is now multiple times he has been punked to the point of being a non-factor. They didn't play Bynum to reward him, they played him because he was their best option. And for Pau that isn't saying much since Lamar was fairly non-existent too.

Kevin Garnett is the head coach of the Celtics in much the same way that LeBron is the head coach of the Cavs. He's the one the team listens to, the one they put their faith and confidence in.

Not to say that Rivers and Brown aren't respected by their teams, but they're sure not the puppet masters.

as a follow-up to a previous thread from awhile back on ron-ron supposedly being a candidate for defensive player of the year again, when he gets bullshit calls on an obvious flop in crunch time against a slight push-off by paul pierce, i beg to differ. come on, dude, 3 rows into the stands on that??? i've seen better acting jobs by soccer floppers. meanwhile, andy varejao has improved his game to the point where he doesn't flop as much as before and is now actually challenging guys shots and really making an impact defensively much like what dennis rodman did back in his pistons "bad boys" days. he's still nowhere near the the worm rebounding-wise, but certainly getting there on par from a defensive position standpoint.

You put Pierce on Kobe, with the players on the floor, and Ron Ron would get switched onto Ray Allen. This would/should be the equivalent of watching Z try to guard Howard last year....severe strength disadvantage, Ron Ron bulls his way to a look in the paint. Ray played the best defense you can play on Kobe in that situation, Kobe is (like FUDU said) a total dick with the last shot.

Watching the Clippers game reminded me again how good of a defender Andy has been this year. He had some stellar plays yesterday, and this whole year has been physical vs. flopping. He rarely gets into foul trouble, too....which is something that I would not have expected given his style of play.

So that, on the morning dime. I'm not sure that they could get "a few peices" that could restore the respect a defense had to (before his legs got so old they started falling off) give Shuttleworth.

I hope they get exactly what they paid for; an old team devastated by ineffectiveness with no bench. They mortgaged their future for a championship, and i hope they burnnnnnnnnnn for it.

Everything is going according to plan in Boston. At least according to the plan that Danny Ainge laid out in the summer of '07. Trade off all the youngsters, get all-star veteran talent, and win now. They did exactly that. Greatest turnaround in league history and Banner #17.

Ainge had to know that with three stars inching into their 30s, the window wasn't going to stay open very long. What the Celtics are right now is exactly what Ainge bought: a several-year window to win championships, which is now closing -- albeit a bit prematurely due to injuries and a bench that all but evaporated after the '07-'08 season.

No one can fault Ainge for doing what he did. He restored the C's to dominance for the first time in 20 years. He has a ring as an executive now. But Ainge's plan, by design, wasn't going to be anything that sustained success over the long haul.

The idea that he had from the acquisition is that the contracts were set to expire at staggered years; Shuttleworth next year, Garnett the year after, and Pierce the year after. (I think that's the order) That way, each year they could lose an old guy and replace with a younger guy w/similar game.

The problem now is that he needs to creatively build a bench along with replacing a star player, with limited finances. Not easy to do, and he was legitimately lucky to do it the first time.
