As long as we can stay away from the words "surgery" and "screws," it can't be that long. Even if it's a hairline fracture or a dislocation, he can probably play with a splint on his hand once the swelling goes down. We're talking about the ring finger. The least mobile, least important digit on your hand. Basically, it's there for stability. It controls nothing in the way of hand movement.

Kobe's playing with a broken index finger on his shooting hand. Basically, a shooter's worst nightmare. I don't know how he's playing, but he is.

I nominate Cleveland State grad Cedric Jackson for a 10 day contract.

He doesn't shoot it well but he's a good assist man and he was the defensive player of the year in the Horizon League last year.

Averaging 14.7 points, 7.6 assists and 4.6 rebounds for the Cavs D League team in Erie. He's coming off a 34 point, 14 assist game on Wednesday.

If West's finger looks to be a bigger issue in the next couple days does Ferry consider going after AI (if it is possible), and would it be that bad an idea for a short term band aid? No Mo no West for a couple to 6 weeks could hurt this team in regards to HCA.

When A.I. was bought out by Memphis, Windy made it sound like a plague of locusts couldn't get Ferry to consider bringing A.I. to Cleveland. And anyway, it sounds like Delonte will miss maybe 7-10 days. I don't think a broken ring finger is ever a six-week injury unless you're talking about a displaced fracture and surgery. Sounds like what Redz has is relatively minor, all things considered.

Even if Redz was out for 4-to-6 weeks, I personally wouldn't be a fan of burning trade assets on a problem that could resolve itself before the end of February. Also, don't forget that Jamario could be back in the next week or so, if the three-week timetable is still accurate.

The four-spot is still the position that should command all the tradeable assets that Ferry has to work with. You don't want to end up with a glut of guards and compromised ability to land an upgrade at PF.

EDIT: A 3-game lead in the conference plus nine of the next 11 at home also means some cushion. Even if the C's suddenly catch fire with KG back, the Cavs should be able to continue to eke out enough wins at home to maintain the 1-seed. As long as LBJ is out there, the Cavs probably won't lose a lot of home games.

IMO if Mo/West were out for prolonged a period Ferry should go get Jamison, and MB put LBJ at the point, err I mean LBJ put LBJ at the point.
