FTR - I never stated Gil didn't deserve the punishment he got. I have no idea where you got that take from but its not in the words I wrote. I typed what he did shouldn't be compared to FIRING A GUN IN PUBLIC. I mean seriously, my statement wasn't that ambiguous in the context of the 2 situations. I'd say its more bigotry than racism, but its douchbaggery through and through. Trust me, I grew up in Chardon and still live on the east side. Stadiums, bars, restaurants, whatever, I've heard people say shit in public that still leaves my jaw on the fucking floor. For the emphasis people have put on education for people of my generation (I'll be 27 in Feb), there are still a sad # of educated bigots/racists out there. I guess for all the stress on building smarts to get a good job, the qualities of tolerance, class, equality, decency, and perspective have gone by the wayside.

Third, I have no problem with your stance on drunk driving, and agree for the most part that it takes a very bad result before a serious penalty is handed down most times. However you are complaining that the repercussions are often too late relative the the risk of the action yet at the same time you are saying Gilbert didn't harm anyone or didn't plan on harming anyone (therefor not deserving a punishment or the one handed down), you are completely contradicting yourself there.

To be fair, that was said 75% tongue in cheek to watch you go nuts.

But you do have a Pavlonian and generally misinformed reaction to this stuff. Backpedaling out of your Plax comments has been sweet to watch though.

Sterns actions had nothing to do w/ guns being in the locker room, it was all about the public finding out. The NBA has had guns in locker rooms for ages and it has been known throughout the league. Partially all of this is on Stern for not doing anything the many many other times he has had the chance. Keep on rolling w/ your thugisms and Stern caring about guns though.

And if you really want to get into the old age Irish versus the blacks from the seventies be my guest. Not going to argue w/ you about that and I would venture to guess you don't even know what actually happened here. I will say that when I go home to Ohio I end up freaking out on biggots at least three or four times. Something about rednecks and Palin rally's, ya know? And FWIW: I have no doubt some of the Boston Burbs have plenty of racists and the general presence of education lacking lower income burbs anywhere tends to run hand in hand w/ uneducated racists. Ohio in general has a lot of less educated lower middle class burbs, same w/ Western Mass, etc. Education tends to lead to enlightenment. Well that and youth.
