Cavs v Bobcats

Unread postby British_Pharaoh » Sun Jan 03, 2010 8:05 am

A win puts the Cavs a clear 2 games ahead of the Celtics and would be the team's 8th in a row which would be a season high.
Cavs are coming off a not so pretty --but adequate-- performance last night where they yet again scraped past the worst team in the NBA thanks to a powerful 3rd quarter (their 6th win in a row against the Nets)

Cavs are back home against Charlotte who will be a bit stiffer competition as they have already dumped a big fat 'L' on the Cavaliers this season, but the Cavs are a joint League best 13-2 at home.
Hoping for a better performance and of course another win

GO Cavs!!!!!

Still tied with the Celts in the loss column though, that's the primary thing that I look with standings.

Cavs have had a tough stretch and the Celts injuries have allowed the Cavs to remain in contention for best record in East, which is important.

This game will be interesting though, S-Jax went off yestrday and the last time we played them, they basically killed us.
Playing here is the closest thing to heaven. Really, I mean it's amazing to be in a place where the fans truly cherish their football team and stick behind them win or lose. hope they can do us a favour

Way too early to be looking at who is or isn't X number of games back in the loss column. That's stuff to look at come April. The Cavs, Celtics and Magic are all going to lose another 10-14 games this season. Best thing to do in January is to just keep your own house as clean as you can. Don't worry about what the neighbors are doing yet.

You know
that tactic of shooting a 3 from the top of the key with 19 seconds left on the shot clock never seems to work oddly enough

but yet we do it 10 times a game

It's not. But it's more what I'd like to see. ;-) ;)

Nothing career threatening. Just a couple breaks going against someone else.

Cavs are batting the mouse around the tub again. When's that 6 minute stretch that turns it into a laugher coming?

That was a pretty exciting sequence of blocked shots there in the 3rd by JJ and Lebron.

I just realized that this Bobcats team is just like the mid 90s Fratello teams with Mills and Phills that would grind a game down to a halt.

I hated those Cavs teams since they were so boring to watch.

Cavs starting to D up down the stretch, but they've been playing most of this game on half-speed. Just not closing out on D and giving away the ball. I guess Charlotte doesn't get the competitive juices flowing.

That and the Cats have played well defensively. I'll give them some credit for that.

Maybe OT will get me my ten point win. ;-) ;)

Charlotte is one of those dangerous teams like Washington where they're good enough to beat the Cavs, but the Cavs really don't get up to play them.

Killer three by Flip, and a roll-home by Ray Felton, a card-carrying member of the Cav Killer Club. Their shots are falling with the game on the line. Might not be in the cards tonight.

How do you fall asleep and let 9 seconds fall off the clock while not fouling a poor free throw shooter? You could hear Brown screaming for it from the time James dropped in the layup.

even more reason to doubt mike brown's ability against the master mr. double digit...nobody's telling me the cavs didn't want this game...they got their asses handed to them in charlotte and no doubt wanted to teach charlotte a thing or two at home (lebron did play the whole second half not just for exercise i assume)....this is an improving charlotte team who will be even better in april and with chandler by then...hopefully we'll have made a big trade before then because no way i want mike vs. larry...bury your head in the sand and dream of double digit wins...i'll be rightfully concerned about facing charlotte in the playoffs

The entire game was more or less a brain fart for the Cavs. They did a ton wrong tonight. Give Charlotte some credit for playing D and getting their fourth-quarter shots to fall, but the Cavs just played mentally-deficient basketball tonight.

It happened against Memphis, it happened against Charlotte before, it happens regularly against Washington in the regular season. It will happen again. they just tend to take the night off mentally against teams that don't get their fire stoked, and against teams with actual weaponry like the Wiz and Cats, it can lead to a loss.

Every team needs a head-out-of-ass moment every so often. This was one such moment for the Cavs. But like I keep saying, they're going to lose 18-24 games this year. Those losses have to come from somewhere, and I'll take a few gags on lesser teams if it means they keep beating the good teams.

LeBron's jumper was so ugly tonight, way too often. Almost as if he forgot how to take a jump shot. Off balance, wrong foot, on the way down. How any of those ones went in is a mystery.

Hey Cockfer. I was the one that said double digit win, not Cass.

You were the one that said Charlotte has the Cavs number. Given the Bobcats were 0-10 in Cleveland and 5-16 against the Cavs going into tonight I'm trying to figure out which numbers scared you more.

Yeah, they're better than they were. But forgive some of us if they don't put the fear of God into Cavs fans.

Cass- I agree. They suffered from Don'tGiveashit-itis and they paid for it. These lapses serve a purpose in that they tend to, with this team anyway, get them re-focused.

You're right, the Cavs played all out and were extremely focused. That's why LeBron didn't get to the line until late. That's why their passes were careless and late all afternoon. That's why Shaq and Delonte forgot to foul Murray with 12 seconds left.

Because they wanted it so, so bad.

So not only are you in the right for melting, I'm in the wrong for not melting. Gotcha.

I hope being terrorized by the prospect of facing Charlotte in the playoffs is worth the lost stomach lining. Charlotte is an improved team, but if you think the Cavs were giving their best effort tonight and just flat-out got beaten by a team that has their number, your ability to accurately gauge the situation is lacking.

The Cavs were -2 in plus-minus with LBJ on the floor. That never happens. A sure sign that their defense was pretty pathetic tonight. The bench did next to nothing, and that whole late-game sequence was proof positive that the Cavs were mentally in outer space tonight. They also only took 13 FTs, which means they weren't attacking the basket and subsequently allowed the game to become a jump-shooting clinic. Try to match jumpers with S-Jax, Flip and Felton, and you're asking for trouble.

Give Charlotte some credit for taking advantage of the Cavs' lapses, but the Cavs lost this game between their own ears. No other place.

I thought the Cavaliers were plenty aggressive. They just got jobbed by the officials. Joey Crawford had it in his head very early that he was going to do whatever he could to ensure Charlotte won the game tonight.

Cleveland got homered in its own building. Pathetic.

I thought the Cavaliers were plenty aggressive. They just got jobbed by the officials. Joey Crawford had it in his head very early that he was going to do whatever he could to ensure Charlotte won the game tonight.

Cleveland got homered in its own building. Pathetic.

They got inside some, but they were still hoisting from outside way too often. 9-21 3PT, 48% FG overall. Not horrible, but not good. Overall, I'd classify their offensive mentality as passive tonight.

Passive-aggressive? Maybe they leave the toilet seat up intentionally.

The schedule's gotta open up some eventually. By my quick look, there is no team in the NBA that has played as many games as we have to this point yet there are 12 teams that have played more home games than we have. The Lakers have played 4 fewer games and 9 less road games than the Cavs so far.

Come on Herm, to put this one on the officiating crew is a stretch IMO. The refs don't shoot, don't rebound, and don't play defense. Charlotte has some talent. They play the Cavaliers in Cleveland 100 times, the Cavaliers beat them 90 or so, but not this evening. LBJ and crew looked disinterested and got beat, plain and simple.

And, this from a Lakers fan, who just texted me, "Kobe hit his third game winner of the year while your boy LBJ clanked ANOTHER shot with the game on the line". :gah:
"It's all about winning for me, and I think the Cavs are committed to doing that," he said. "But at the same time I've given myself options to this point, and like I said before, me and my team, we have a game plan that we're going to execute, and we'll see what we get."

Agree with Fundamentals even though it's a school night and he's posting past his bed time. Not the officials when you play that kind of ball. Same number of head scratching no-calls and phantom fouls as any other night.

For the love of Pete. You're about 5 minutes east of me.

Pansies.

Apparently south of I-90 is not good. :bunny:

I none get this Lake Effect snow. I blame it all on the Perry Nuclear Power Plant and the fact that Lake County has built an invisible force field or fan to blow this stuff to the East. :gah:

And, back on topic, the Cavaliers played 2 on 5 tonight and lost.

Yeah. I guess we'll just have to settle for the 15 or so game-winners LBJ hit while his team was dusting Kobe McPetulant and the L.A. Sense Of Entitlements in front of a national audience on Christmas Day. Oh yeah, the reanimated corpse of Shaq pretty well neutralized Pau and Bynum, too.

And their fans threw foam L-A symbols on the court. Not beer cups or bottles. Not even their ever-present Dasani bottles. Foam fingers. Even when L.A. fans throw temper tantrums, they throw them like pussies.

So tell your Laker boi to polish his championship ring and wear it on a fucking necklace.

(I'm a little cranky tonight.)

This loss proves two things to me:

1) the cavs aren't good enough to coast through a game.
2) I would love to grab a new starting 2 who can stop players like Captain Jack, while consistently putting in 10-20.

the cavs sure didn't look like a team that wanted to try very hard last night. i agree with the take that they played like they didn't really give a poop. oh well, they weren't going to win out. all they can do now is spank the wizards like they should and get ready for more road games. team road game heads back out west! yee-haw!!

Your children should be very happy today too sir. Just sayin'. :lmfao:

With regard to my pal who likes Kobe and company, I am just going to remain silent until an appropriate moment comes up. :dingle:

Am I the only one who wonders if fundy is still in school with his excitement over this?

Aren't parents usually a bit ticked about snow days for the kids (b/c of the rearranging of schedules and what not?).

1) No team is really good enough to coast through 48 minutes and expect to win. It's the pros, any given Sunday and so forth. But in this particular case, I don't think the Cavs have yet gotten the memo that defeating the Bobcats will now require more than minimum exertion and interest level.

2) Power forward is the number one need on this team. As long as Redz can keep it together and stay on the active list, SG is fine. You have enough versatility at the position to make it productive. Where this team really has a soft underbelly is the position where J.J. Hickson is starting and they're still waiting to see if Leon Powe can contribute anything this year. They have Andy logging minutes at PF, but he's really more of a center.

Yes. I'm working out of the house today because of it and because my 15 yr old is sick and can't keep an eye on the younger two. Luckily I can do that. But if I couldn't I'd be taking a vacation day or my wife would be not getting paid to stay here.

But the kids think this day is better than the ten days off they just had. Because it wasn't scheduled.

Fundamentals isn't a student. He's a teacher. It's just that he's as immature as the kids he teaches. :nanner:

Maybe he's a teacher. I'm sure they celebrate snow days as much as the kids even if they have to cram more lessons into less time.

Cavs were just blah last night. I blame it on the weird-ass Saturday afternoon/Sunday night game back to back. Not gonna have many more of those this season, or ever.
