All- Star Reserves

Unread postby swerb » Sat Feb 04, 2006 9:30 am

Who would you take? Here's who I would select. Starters, as voted on by the fans, are listed in bold.

East

Dwayne Wade, Allen Iverson, LeBron James, Jermaine O'Neal, Shaquille O'Neal

First off, I'm taking Chris Bosh to replace the injured Jermaine O'Neal in the lineup. Bosh has had an amazing year for the shitty Raptors, and is a star in the making. Amazing to think that he, Bron, Wade, Melo all came from the same draft.

My 7 East reserves ...

Chauncey Billups, Det
Gilbert Arenas, Wash
Michael Redd, Mil
Paul Pierce, Bos
Vince Carter, NJ
Rasheed Wallace, Det
Ben Wallace, Det

Garnering consideration:

Jason Kidd, NJ
Richard Jefferson, NJ
Joe Johnson, Atl
Mike James, Tor
Rip Hamilton, Det
Tayshaun Prince, Det
Dwight Howard, Orl
Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Cle

West

Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming

My 7 West reserves ...

Chris Paul, NO
Tony Parker, SA
Kevin Garnett, Min
Shawn Marion, Pho
Elton Brand, LAC
Dirk Nowitzki, Dal
Pau Gasol, Mem

Garnering consideration:

Mehmet Okur, Utah
Carmelo Anthony, Den
Rashard Lewis, Sea
Ray Allen, Sea
Baron Davis, GS
David West, NO
Boris Diaw, Pho
Mike Bibby, Sac

Mostly right, I think.

I take Rip Hamilton or Jason Kidd over Michael Redd though.

In the West, Melo and West get in over Kung Pau.

I think the NBA will step up and get both New Orleans/Oklahoma City players on this roster. So West over Melo, over Gasol.

Talking about the 03 NBA draft, don't forget it also produced Kirk Hinrich, TJ Ford, Boris Diaw, Josh Howard, and probably some guys I'm forgetting. That could have been the greatest draft in the history of any sport.

Rip gets in over Redd, and Ray Allen makes the team instead of Chris Paul ... otherwise I had the same reserves.

Arenas didn't get named, but David Stern gets to pick someone to replaces Jermaine O'Neal, and it will likely be him.

Surprised Pierce got picked over Arenas, even though Pierce really is havign a good season. Still, Arenas average more points, more assists, is on a better team, and the Wiz has beat the Celtics both time they played this year.

(H)akeem, MJ, Barkley, Stockton.

And how ridiculous is it that the NBA draft was ever 10 rounds?

Figures Arenas gets the call that he is added right before the game with the Cavs. Dude was amazing last night. I knew when he said "I still have some things to prove" before the game ... that it could be a long night. Especially with the Cavs with a road win in the 1st game of this mini 2 game road swing.

Has it ever been consistently worth watching?

Seems to me you're probably lucky to have a truly compelling competition once every ten years or so. Like MJ vs. Nique (which I was too young for) and Vince Carter going nuts however many years ago that was now (which I was lucky to see, since I don't make it a point to watch these things). Lebron's the only guy I see in the league right now who could make it really worth watching again, but we might as well wait until a year in which he's not battling the pantyhose, no?

Fortunately I am old enough to have seen MJ and Doninique in the slam dunk contest, and if you ask me, it has not been the same since. I understand the NBA is still looking for MJ's replacement, But the dunk contest will never be the same. The NBA goes down a list of new faces, hoping to get the crowds attention. Not to downplay the new talent in the NBA, but it is not the same as it was. I would love to see LeBron and Vince go at it.

I still watch and enjoy it
I remember the old and the new
It isnt the same and wont be but still entertaining when a guy rams it home after tossing it off the backboard doing a reverse
It makes me wish I was 8 inches taller.
