I decided a long time ago that I root for the name on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back. And today my NBA team is a hell of a lot better than it was yesterday, The best player in the NBA is on my team now.

Is Cleveland big enough for Johnny Football AND Mr. Basketball???

LBJ did not mention Bennett or Wiggins. Could just be random, or could mean they are headed to Minnesota.

Yes, we cheer for laundry pretty much as it should be. LeBron plays for Cleveland again is all that matters right now. The scheme of the master! Go stink for 4 years and compile lottery picks and I go win a couple titles....then I'm back as that's the only way you'll get any players!

Still shocks the shit out of me.

Really pumped not so much for LeBron but that I have a team that is relevant and I can get that piece of my sporting life back.

Really excited for the city too. Say what you want but he is an economic machine.

I kind of feel bad for Le Bron because he does not know it yet, but he is about to come down with some disease that will bear his name after it kills him in a few years before playing a minute for the Cavs. OIC/TCF

(Of course I am hoping that doesn't happen.)

The prodigal son returns. He has either surrounded himself with a better marketing team or he has some pretty serious regrets about 2010. In any case, Go Cavs.

How long till someone digs up a LBJ hate thread???? 3-2-1...

No, but one hasn't played and the other hasn't played much. Makes sense he wouldn't name them.

He does however, specifically mention patience, and not being ready right now but it being a process. Which leads ME to believe that he's not demanding another big name to come in right away.

I'm seriously stunned. I really am. I didn't see that coming for basketball and non-basketball reasons, most of which have been addressed here.

That letter, as much as I understand wasn't written BY him, was fucking perfect. It was perfect.

Which means it wasn't scrawled out on the plane last night and that Lee Jenkins had it for a while after LeBron's PR people perfected it.

The whole thing is surreal. Especially after you look back at the televised abortion of four years ago.

I don't know if LeBron has grown up THAT much, but he's at least surrounded himself with grown up people.

I'm just thrilled for all of us who are Cleveland sports lifers.

It's as big a day as there has been in sports-wise in this city.

Ever.

The question is, will LeBron replace Kyrie on the banner at the top of TCF?

So in the end, it's the SECOND firing of Mike Brown that will pay the dividends! I feel a little bad for Blatt. the pressure on him is now astronomical.

Yeah, poor Blatt. He just got the best player on the planet to coach.

Lets just hope we don't have to empty the cupboards for K.Love. Give them all the draft picks they want. They'll be useless anyway.

I'd also like to see us make a run for Gasol. Either at the MLE (which I think has Ray Allen's name on it) or that $10 Mil trade exemption we got from BOS. Tho I suppose we'd have to give up either Bennet or Dion to get that done.

I almost cried when I heard Lebron's letter on the radio. Awesome. Anybody care to compare the Cavs' current starting five to the 2008-2010 group that won 60+ games/year? Everybody around here says Cleveland is now a top 3 team in the East, but I can't help but think that their roster now is better than it was four years ago. Does anybody really believe Mo Williams is better than Kyrie Irving?

Never woulda thunk it.

Never.

Looks like I greatly underestimated the "personal" part over professional. Maybe cause it really doesn't happen anymore.

Anyways, most happy for the young kids of Cleveland that now have a chance of a winner, and for those slinging drinks and waiting tables in the area.

It's always been real simple since the decision - no matter how you felt, if you want relevant NBA basketball, you want him back, if you wanna stink forever, keep up the hate.

Long live the King.

I thought the patience/process of winning part of the article was the best part. His new staff is much better than the old staff. I think there probably is a lot of truth in his article, but he had to look at that Heat roster and see how impossible it was going to be for him to win.

Long term, Cleveland looks like a serious player regardless of any other moves they make, and they do have room to make them. They have very tradeable assets. If Bennett becomes even a decent player this team could be phenomenal in a year or two. It is a well composed team with youth and very real upside. I don't even want to think what they could've been if they had not screwed up the 2013 #1 Pick.

I'm not even a huge basketball fan, but it is a huge day. I sported my Cavs shirt to the Summer Brewfest in Norfolk and spent the entire night getting high-fives and congratulations from everyone. Also saw about a half dozen Cleveland shirts.

And I love the media attention. It is awful and awesome at the same time.

There's still good stuff out there, but it really has to be looked for and it's often mixed in with a a lot of shit.

Case in point, this Bill Simmons piece: http://grantland.com/features/god-loves-cleveland/

I loved Bill Simmons when he was coming up.

I hate Bill Simmons, media magnate/Hollywood wannabe.

But the piece above, if you're open and honest, is brilliant on about 40 levels.

About LeBron, about MJ, Bird, basketball artistry, all of it.

It's fantastic and I wish Simmons was this guy all the time.

Get one that fits.

I saw a lot of humps last night at Tribe game walking around in "23" jerseys that were 4 years too small. They needed to check a scale and/or a mirror before they left the house.

I had a LeBron jersey for a 1 year old when he left 4 years ago. It's been sitting in a box. Busted it out yesterday and it fits the new kid perfectly. Like it was meant to be.

Simmons article was great, but damn is that guy long winded. I was expecting a long article comparing LeBrons decision to Just One Of The Guys or Weird Science or something.

One of the better commentaries I've read is Angelo's at Fear The Sword. I think that guy is great.

Windhorst reports LeBron signs for 2 years because of the expected large jump the cap is supposed to take at that time. I believe due to a new TV deal. But he's supposedly committed to Cavs long-term and is expected to re-sign at that time.

Not unexpected.

Expected cap jump will come just in time to help us re-sign some of the kids we now have. Maybe we can back load any K-Love contract so it kick in after the cap is raised. Interesting.

I don't understand the hold-up, Miami owes him $6.6 mil this season (that check is gonna really sting when they sign it - Karma's a bitch) and we have $2.6 to offer. This move bumps us over the cap within the limits and we then get the MLE (Allen).

It sure seems like a done deal and no negotiation would be needed. Maybe it's the lawyer stuff.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought we didn't get either the MLE or the Bi-Annual exception this year because we were under the cap (before signing LeBron)?

That's why they have to make a deal to go over the cap I think. Honestly, you need a law degree to understand the ins-and-outs of the NBA and the cap. I'm not an expert by any means. Though I do know I read somewhere we would eventually get the MLE.

Cavs will be able to go over the cap to sign their own restricted FAs, right? I know the cap got tougher with changes in 2013, but I think that's still true. Very soon the limiting factor for the Cavs will be Gilbert's willingness to operate in the tax. I assume LeBron operated these past few weeks with assurances from Gilbert that he will spend.

I was never as pissed about the Decision as everyone else.

For months the Cleveland media talked about how LeBron never had a "college signing day" where he sat behind four baseball hats, and they showed highlights and everyone talked him up, and then he picked one up and put it on. They kept saying he missed out on that and should do it for his Decision. His people were obviously listening.

They just thought he was going to put on a Cavs hat. Of course those same media members crucified him when he did what they said he should do.

I thought when I committed to season tickets on Thursday, I might curse it. Whew, and ecstatic. As an aside, if I'm sitting in section 128, seats 17&18, is that closer to section 127, or to the walkway from the locker room?

I still cannot fathom the blind luck or divine intervention involved in him coming back, as well as landing back to back #1 picks. That said, nothing is guaranteed more than a fun ride going forward.

If I'm the cavs, I'm not trading Wiggins at all. Waiters is still your piece to deal, and should net some big of value. Which is ironic because waiters was so supposed to be the next wade...a young wade next to LeBron? Bennett would be next in line to deal, though only in a Love deal. Excited about how he looks after getting in shape. I'd gladly deal those 2 and picks for Love, but that would be out.

Ultimately, though, I give it a run with the youth we have, plus whatever LeBron's clout and pull can net us, like miller, allen, etc. LeBron will make all of the kids look better, it might be safer to let LeBron play with them early to improve their value. I'm also wondering if LeBron might ultimately transition to pf as he gets older. Everyone loses a step eventually, and he has the size. Considering our roster now, it might make sense to use him at the 4 in some lineups. In that configuration, he gives you the benefits of Love and ability to play kyrie, wiggins, and a shooter like allen. Still requires a defensive center, which we don't have.

I agree. Keep waiters and you have your scoring punch
When lebron sits. Hopefully Bennett gets you 15 and 10.
Still can't believe we have good basketball again
After watching 4 years of inconsistent slop.
but in no place is the pain like Cleveland's: all-encompassing, multi-generational, redundant and unique at once.

Kind of shocked about this still honestly.

Still.

He's a completely different guy than he was in 2010. He's recruiting players, repping the city/region, and just has handled everything with a lot of class/maturity

Is this all him?

Probably not. Rich Paul is kicking ass and taking names right now with what he's helped to pull off.

I do know that there's not a single person in Cleveland who can really hold a grudge against him. Even guys like Scott Raab and Trivisanno have been either forgiving (Raab) or "meh" (Triv) about the whole thing.

This is pretty fun though. I'm going to have a blast being able to watch a relevant, exciting team during the god awful months of winter.

La Familia.
