LaFontaine's Power Play Ideas

Unread postby jack_tors » Wed Oct 07, 2009 8:07 am

This is a short but interesting read. Pat LaFontaine has a few ideas about making the game for exciting.

I like his ideas and it makes for an interesting debate. I am not sure if its truly needed as the last 5 minutes of a game usually are pretty intense but I might be in the minority on that opinion.

Edit: There is some good discussion on this article at the bottom of the linked page.

I read the first page of discussion underneath the article, but don't want to read all 350 posts. I think both of those ideas should be a FAIL.

1. Giving a team the choice to take a penalty shot on a roughing minor from a scrap after the whistle blows? Does that sound like something we should be interested in? I think they should award MORE penalty shots than they do now when a guy gets a breakaway and somebody slashes at him or hooks him. But let's only award these opportunities when the penalty has occurred in this type of situation.

2. Making all penalties "major" penalties I think would make referees swallow their whistle. Some may say that's a good thing, but there's still too much hooking and slashing and this rule change would make it even worse.

NHL rule change ideas sounds like a good thread topic............
