Wedding Reception

I need a little help here. I will be getting married next summer and I hope to have the wedding in the Cleveland area. Any suggestions on places to hold the reception? I'm trying to keep the price moderate. Any help would be appericiated.

I got married at Normandy in Wickliffe. Great hall that holds up to 300. Phenomenal food. Reasonably priced. Another nice thing they do is they let you bring in your own boose. If your friends drink like mine, you will save a ton of cash there.

Been to many weddings there, always a great time and good service.

The Lead Man got hitched at St. Noel's in Willoughby. (Not the church, just the hall). To echo Swerb, a real key in to bring in you own alcohol. Not only do you not get bent over with the open bottles and price, you take home what you don't use. And, it really isn't a hassle because several beverage stores in the area will deliver it the day before. Also, great food, and the chef will let you pop in on a weekend and give you carry out of the various dishes.

I went with PineRidge.

A little on the small side (<200)
A little on the expensive side (but cutting down the guest list because of size helps that).


Great food. Great service. Had no worries the day of and everything was first class.

Pine Ridge is very nice, but pricy.

I like how they have separate areas for drinking, appetizers beforehand ... then they filter everyone into the main hall for dinner and all the speaking.

West Side Irish American club, IIRC Avon/Avon Lake, hands down one of the best facilities anywhere.

IIRC you can bring your own beer/booze.

Also close enough to good lodging for those that won't want to drive home.

We did Notre Dame in So. Euclid. Married in Chapel, walk to hall, liquor and booze on us. Cheap 17 years ago. I bought like 30 cases of beer, about 1 hour into cocktail hour a friend says that we ran out. Without batting an eye, I give him my credit card and tell him to buy more. How's that for respecting your drinking buddies, of course he was kidding.

We had our reception at the Wyndham in downtown Cleveland. It was great-the food was wonderful, the view of playhouse square, alcohol & cake were included!

Highly recommend. Our guests loved it too and all went to the Jake the night before.

As a wedding DJ I can provide a few pointers

1. Pick a hall that fits the size of your crowd.

There is NOTHING worse than a 100-200 person reception in a hall that can handle 500. (Croatian Center)

2. If it is within your budget, pick a banquet hall either IN a hotel or attached to one. the luxury of partying and NOT having to drive afterwards is priceless. Usually sets the stage for everyone relaxing and having a good time. The downtown hotels (Wyndham) are AWESOME, but may be a bit pricey. I've handled receptions in hotels all over the Cleveland area, and haven't had a bad experience yet.

Most of these places can adjust the size of the room, and the dance floor to the size of your party (See number 1)

3. Don't get to bogged down about the food.

Honestly, after eating 100s of dinners, they all are about the same or MOST wouldn't still be doing business.

4. I agree about bringing in your own alchohol. It saved my wife and I a ton of $$$$$

If so, you'll only need to rent the hall for only about a 1/2 hour, then check into a room, take all your beverages with you, and turn on ESPN for about 3 days.

There was too much fighting about the location of my wedding. I live in Florida and my father's family wanted us to get married in Cleveland. My mother's family was tied between Indiana and Arizona. My wife's family is from Brazil and they were paying for it.

So I got married in Brazil instead. Great little town of Sao Vincente and we had the reception at an Italian restaurant on the coast near the town of Santos.
