International Beer Fest at IX Center

Unread postby skatingtripods » Fri May 06, 2011 5:43 pm

Hosted next weekend.

Think we could get about 10 press passes for TCF?

For $45 for 48 1 oz. "tasting tickets", not me. I can spend $45 at the Cleats 2 minutes from my house and get alcohol poisoning.

Wow $45 for 48 oz. What a rip. Nothing like throwing down $11/beer. Seems just moronic not to charge $55 or something and make it all you can drink. Perhaps worried about the drunk drivers.
In the end, we're all "only for a limited time," you guys.

I knew it was a little pricey but that's OK. What I want to know is if you can buy MORE tickets than the 48 1oz "tasting tickets" that they supply. Because if you get cut off after that then...well...that's a game changer.

This is very true. And $20 to take a designated driver is a joke. They should slap a big DD sticker on the back of every DD and let them in for free. If they're drinking, they put them on a stage and publicly ridicule them.

At the Ohio winefest at Lake Farm Park every August in Kirtland you get all you can taste for about $20 if you buy in advance and a DD is only about $10 and they get all the soda pop they can drink. Plus it is outside and there are reasonably priced food vendors and 2 stages for live bands at different places throughout place. It is Ohio wine but nowadays Ohio puts out pretty good stuff.

$45 for 48 - 1 ounce tastings seems like a screw job. I agree with tripods, go to your local place get some beers and have a dinner and go home with money left over with the $48 you started with.

Even if you are not a wine fan it is a nice event to attend and you would be surprised how much you enjoy it. I have taken people who did not drink wine much and they warmed up to it pretty well. ( I don't work for the Ohio Wine Producers Association - honest!)

I can literally count on both hands how many beers on the IX list I haven't had. Too much money for that type of event IMO. I can stay in Mentor and find many more rare beers than the Beerfest has to offer.

Agreed.

It' a good time at a nice time of year and you don't feel like you're getting cork screwed for your ticket price. You also usually walk away with a decent enough looking wine glass and there are vendors selling decent stuff other than food too.

If schedules allow Lisa and I go every year.

And you can still walk after. Went many moons ago - it was, obviously, a blast. Brings a whole new meaning to saying "I'll just have one or two"

I got some friends volunteering there this year. 4 hours of "work" gets you passes for this year and next year's fest. Might be late in the game for this, but worth checking out.

Reminder: Try not to kill anyone driving home. We'd all appreciate it.

I went last night and I think it's worth it.

They give you a glass that has a 1oz line marked on it but can hold about 4oz. My guess is that most pours are in the 2.5-3 range. There is a lot of beer to choose from.

Don't worry about how much you're allowed to drink. They give you a bunch of tickets that you're supposed to give to the pourers, but it's very loose. I still have a pocket full of tickets because most of the time I didn't bother to hand them one. After being there I can't really see quantity as being a problem.

Of course we did hedge our bets by downing a few before we went. Long story short, I walked into the place drunk and walked out blind. In all honesty, I wish I hadn't drank before hand because I don't really recall any beers too specifically.

We also hired a car to drop us off and pick us up. Probably a good idea too.

I recommend it. You'll get plenty to drink. It's a cool way to spend a few hours. You won't feel like you got jipped.

And it's only $45 bucks you cheap bastards.

Went to Beerfest in Norfolk yesterday.
http://www.festevents.org/event/137/10t ... s-festival

$30, 4 oz glass, no tickets needed. The only limiting factor was the lines. For an extra $15, you could get a pitcher to help negate the lines. I went with a bunch of people, so we all took turns getting a pitcher when the place got busy.

I only made it to about 10 breweries, but I camped out at the Sothern Tier tap and had about a dozen glasses of the Unearthly and Gemini IPA. Good stuff.

2. McDonalds only serves sausage Mcmuffin with eggs until 10:30 I think

1. 8:50 . As clear as CDT don't know pizza.

2 . If it's not a big, sloppy, sit down high cholesterol breakfast, or a Roman Burger, on a hang over scale it can't be more than a 6. That means it couldn't have been that fun. And contrary to PSA's that used to run on the ABC after school specials, it is impossible to have any real fun without drugs or alcohol.

3. I thought you were married? Mornings like that are why you remember annaversaries big time, tell her she's pretty, and ask how her day was on a regular basis.

I know this post is a bit late to the party, but it's been a while since I signed onto TCF.

I attended Saturday night's IX BeerFest and it was definitely worth the $48. Motherscratcher is right the volunteers were filling up the glasses 3-3.5 ounces each and they were not strict at all with the tickets. I thought I was being slick at first by pretending to drop a ticket in the bucket and keep it my fist but the volunteers didn't care. I probably only dropped in about 15 tickets total. At about 10:15pm a few old ladies gave us the rest of their tickets because they were cashed so I ended up with almost as many tickets as I began the night with (30).

There were so many booths that the lines were almost non-existent. Longest line I waited in all night was probably the Brew Kettle's line and that was only 5 people deep.

The highlight (or maybe lowlight) of the evening was at about 8:05pm when some dude started projectile vomiting in the little picnic area that they had set up just adjacent to the "Northeast USA" section. C'mon dude. 65 minutes in and you're already ridding yourself of that afternoon's Chipotle? Weak.
