California ballpark trip

Not sure whether this was more appropriate here or in the MLB forum, but here goes...

My brother and I are planning a trip to California later this month. Due to our schedules, we haven't had the opportunity to spend much time together recently. Luckily, we can both get away for a week at the same time.

Here's the (tentative) plan:

Tuesday night: PIT ---> SAN (Diego). Check into hotel, grab dinner and a few drinks.

Wednesday: Do some sight seeing / walking around San Diego. Padres game at night.

Thursday: Wake up, check outta hotel, drive to greater LA area. Dodgers game at night.

Friday: Angels game at night. (this is up for debate)

Saturday: Wake up, check outta hotel, start the long drive to San Francisco. Dinner and Giants game at night.

Sunday: Spend day in San Fran, SFO --> PIT

I'm still not sure about the Thurs/Fri in LA. I want to see Dodger Stadium, but the ANgels game is take it or leave it...might be better to get an extra day in SF.

Any guidance on hotels, restaurants, bars, things to do, etc is very much appreciated. Been to San Diego before and am vaguely familiar with the Gaslamp area, but never been to LA or SF.

I guess I will add this. I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to hit any of the stadiums. If you are going to roll through Cali, you might as well cross the entire state off the stadium list.

Other than Oakland of course. I would not hit that place and take up any more of my time that could be spent in San Fran or San Diego. And if you have to hit it to cross it off some checklist (not sure if the A's are even there when you are), get there early, buy cheapest ticket possible, walk around for 20 minutes and get across the bridge.

I don't even know what Giant stadium is called today (SBC Yahoo-Stick Park?) but the chowder in bread bowl with a Sierra Nevada is a nice day. Walk that park all the way around as you can basically be a step or two away from McCovey Cove while in the stadium. It's a cool place. When I was there 6-7 years ago or more the area around the park was dead. Hadn't been built up yet. Sure that's no longer the case.

But I agree that if you can see Petco, Dodger Stadium and the Giants that's a great trip. Oakland and Anaheim are pretty much East Cleveland and Mentor respectively.

Dude, you have quite the jam-packed trip.

Haven't spent time in SD for a while and I hate LA so I will not touch on those much other than to say I would skip the Angels game and spend more time in SF. SF is a great city and a blast to spend time in if you have never been there. If I were you I would stay near Union Square, it is pretty centrally located, good amount of public transportation near and it not far from the ball park. Don't bother going to Chinatown, it is dirty and disgusting, make sure to go to Ferry Plaza if you are a food person at all. Stop by Chris Constantino's place and get a salumi cone. Fantastic. Try to get to Haight Ashbury as I found it to be a very cool little enclave and IMO head to North Beach for dinner. My favorite was this place http://www.tonyspizzanapoletana.com/ fantastic pie. Dude goes all out from fresh mozz to san marzano sauce. Little bit of a trek from Union Square, but you can cab it for $10.

Check stubhub or ticketsnow and try to get seats on the right field wall at At&T Park (The Arcade Seats). I sat there two summers ago, only set me back about 40 per seat. BP was awesome in those seats, line drives coming at you fast. And yes, garlic fries are a must.

The A's arent in town that week (and I've seen enough of that stadium the last few days) and I'm thinking about bagging Anaheim. Seems like a Disney nightmare to me. An extra day in SF may be in order.

Cool deal, hope they are still reasonably priced. You are on top of the right fielder and still have nice views of the cove. Also, adjacent to the center field area with all of the concessions. I thought the concourse behind home was a little too crowded, but all in all it's a top 5 park for me (I've been to a little over half of the mlb stadiums).

I'm going to look into Union Square in SF as Ziner suggested, but does anyone have any hotel suggestions for SD or LA? I'd like to stay close to the ballpark in SD, and from what I remember, that shouldnt be a problem. LA? I'm clueless. From what I understand, Chavez Ravine aint close to anything and isnt in an area where you'd feel comfy staying.

Any militant Native-American activists nearby? I read they are bent by the whole OSL as "Geronimo" thing. They may be looking for a scapegoat. Might wanna go with the innoculous block "C".
