This Italian-borned, Slovenian-Bohunk made one of his best Irish dinners ever tonight...beef came out perfect and plenty left over for sammies this week

Spuds, carrots, cabbage, rye bread and homemade mustard not too shabby either....

Oh, and the 12 pack of Harp's made for a great appetizer & dessert

Picked up corned beef & cabbage dinners from Chicago Deli in Solon, about 5 min before we talked on the phone today Rob.

Great deli. Sister restaurant to the Manhattan Delis in Mentor and by Loehmans. Line was out the door to sit in the dining room. TO go line was 20 deep, and the place was a sea of green.

One of my favorite meals. Corned beef, loaded with horseradish and stadium mustard. Cabbage, redskins, carrots, couple whole pickles ... rye bread, cole slaw.

Cap it off with 4 GL Conways Irish Ales and a Cavs win over the Magic.

Don't get too much better than that.

Put mine in the crock last night about midnight. Onions, carrots, redskins, a beer, brown sugar, water with the brisket basted in mustard. One of the best dinners of the year. I always look forward to it.

Got a to-go samich at Chicago deli in Solon, they came home to the mother-in-law dropping off what looked like a brick of corned beef, redskins, carrots, and cabbage. Thinking about making myself this weekend. Corned beef is one food i NEVER get sick of.

Cb and cabbage is the ost disgusting food on the planet. I still have PTSD from having to eat it at my Irish Grandparent's as a kid. Boiling meat is just wrong.

Second of all, I didn't boil anything personally. Slow cooker for 12 hours.

I'll eat it all day, every day.

If you don't boil it, it isn't real Irish corned beef. Like Jews in a deli know from corned beer. Nice poeple. I'll eat their pickles and sandwhiches, but hey, what they slice isn't St paddy's Irish corned beef. That would be this greyish clay color piece of boiled ick with fat all over and inside it.

My Grandmother from Mayo once boiled us hamburgers bacuse she heard american kids liked hamburgers. It was brutal, dude.

And that is so untrue about just being contrarian. I have a very short list of things I won't eat. Hummus, any eggs but scrambled, and a few nasty veggies. For some reason, I love me some pastrami sammich, but won't touch corned beef.

Drop it in.

Add cabbage.

Puke from the smell.

Order pizza.

Apparently I ate fake corned beef. No more fat than any other roast, red in color, no boiling. You could boil a porterhouse and it would blow. Boil a turkey and it would blow. Do it right and its like most other things.

Yeah, and the meat is seared for a few minutes before going in...that's actually how I cook mine, seared and in chicken stock...I'm not Irish so I don't care

BTW - I live in Y-town and have kind of adopted it's run-down ass, so to speak, becasue it reminds me of home, but I am a died in the wool C-town East Sidah. And I mean the northeast side, not the monied & cutured southeast side.

But yeah man, love red skinned and mashed spuds like a son of Mayo should, so I left them out. Got me.

And i think I eat Rice-a Roni every other freaking day. So you got me there, too.

And trust me, Irish boiling ain't braising.

OK there is a huge difference between badly prepared corned beef and good corned beef. Just like you might be revolted to go buy ground beef that is dog food grade, you'll be revolted by bad corned beef.
