I'm heading off to Vegas for 10 days at the end of April and my parents are actually going to be there around the same time. I'm getting towards the stage in my life where I feel like I wanna give something back, so I was thinking about treating the folks to a good meal, but wanted to try and get some feedback of the best places to go for food.
Price isn't really an issue..... I've heard good things about Craftsteak at the MGM Grand, but was just wondering if anyone had ever had a great meal in a restaurant in Vegas (preferably on the strip) that they would recommend?
Thanks

Believe it or not, I am writing this after just getting home from LV. The plane landed at 11:10PM, Saturday night.
We had a tremendous meal at Binions SteakHouse downtown. I am not a "downtown" person, but this steakhouse reeks of Old Las Vegas. The ORIGINAL Rat Pack spent a lot of time here. The restaurant is located on the top floor of Binions with a spectacular skyline view of the city.
Food was very good. Choice of potato, vegetable and house salad is included in entree. Specialty salads are extra and of course, so are appetizers and condiments.
I had the 4-cheese onion soup (although it needed a quick splash of salt, it was very good and nuclear hot), wedge salad with blue cheese ($6.95) and the regular filet ($40 also a regular dinner salad was included but I opted for the Wedge). With the steak came roasted potatoes (the nights specialty), spaghetti squash and a bernaise type sauce for dipping. The filet was extremely good. Using the bernaise dipping sauce would have been sacreligious. Spaghetti squash was an excellent side dish.
My wife had the small filet ($32) and it, too was cooked to perfection.
For six people:
1- regular filet
2-small filet
1-regular prime rib
1-HUGE plate of scallops
1-Pork tenderloin
6-salads (three included w/meal, 3-for an additional charge)
3-Onion soups
1-Lobster bisque
3-alcohol drinks
No dessert, but a complimentary hunk of cheesecake for an anniversary couple in our group. Everybody shared.....
TOTAL with TIP (That they included with parties of 6 or more): $352.00
Not a superstar chef restaurant and I am sure that it is not the "best steak house" in Vegas, BUT it has ALL the charm of OLD, Mob-controlled Vegas which is something the city desparately needs to go back to.
In the past, I have eaten at Lawry's, Harrahs Steakhouse, Rosemarys, and Smith/Wollensky. They are all good places, but this is the SECOND time I have been to Binions..........
Uncle Dunes/Stardust/Hacienda/Flamingo Hilton..........

With the meal I'm taking my parents to..... with them being extremely stubborn people (you've gotta love parents), I wouldn't be "allowed" to take them anywhere particularly expensive even if I wanted to (haha).... so, I've booked a table for 4 at Mon Ami Gabi in the Paris Resort opposite the Bellagio. Hopefully, we'll be able to sit outside on the Saturday night in the patio area and be able to look on at the Bellagio fountains as we eat.
I figure that way I'm able to actually buy them a meal (as it's pretty reasonably priced) as well as visit a bunch of the other places you guys have recommended by myself (well, with my girlfriend).
I read some good reviews for Mon Ami Gabi in the Vegas forums that Peeks linked and, with it being a french restaurant, you can (hopefully) still get a good steak at the same time as having some more classical dishes to choose from.
Have any of you guys ever eaten at Mon Ami Gabi?? If so, what did you think?

These aren't TCF responses (I'm certain there will be some) but may be helpful:

It's been five years since I've been to LV, but we ate at Mon Ami Gabi the first night we were there, and LOVED it. Found it to be very good food and very reasonably priced, especially for a place on the Strip with views of the Bellagio fountains.
Unless it has changed in the past few years (which of course is always very possible), I'd highly recommend it.

i can honestly say that when i first went to the "hofbrauhaus" i wasn't really expecting much. all my years of traveling up to frankenmuth, michigan and going to the bavarian inn, kind of jaded my opinion of authentic german food and beer. it's ok, but if i had my druthers, i'd rather eat at a chinese buffet.
that being said, the hofbrauhaus in las vegas completely changed my mind & gave me a whole new-found appreciation for the whole "german" experience.
located just a block away from the strip just across the street from the hard rock hotel casino, the hobrauhaus serves all kinds of german fare including weinerschnitzel (breaded veal), knodel (pasta dumplings), saurkraut, schweinebraten (roast pork), maultaschen (meat dumplings), reibekuchen (potato cakes), bratwurst and of course all your standard german chicken, sausage, breads and cheese. good stuff. i had the weinerschnitzel and the knodel and it was absolutely to die for. also, if you like pumpernickel bread, they have the best pumpernickel i have ever tasted. omg!!!
i'm not a beer drinker myself but everyone else in my party was and they all enjoyed the large authentic german mugs and steins that held 64 oz. of dark german draught beer. i don't think i've ever seen my friends more tipsy than after drinking these particular type of bavarian libations. they brew it much stronger than what you're probably used to around here. needless to say they all had a very good time.
of course, the atmosphere probably had a lot to do with that too as their beer hall is setup in a cafeteria-type setting which allows everybody (and boy do i mean everybody as we had 16 people in our group all sitting comfortably and there was still room to spare) to sit at these long tables sort of like picnic tables as the benches are attached to the table just like picnic tables are.
meanwhile, they have an authentic german "oomp-pah-pah" band playing all your standard german music (edelweiss, die lorelei, etc) with a few twists on some more contemporary american songs. believe me when i tell you that you haven't lived until you hear them play both "the chicken dance" as well as van halen's "jump" on an accordion. hee-hee!!! no but seriously though, people dance in the aisles between the tables and a few of my friends even danced on our table before the owner made us sit down or he was going to throw us out. i think he works for the n.f.l. - the "no fun league". hee-hee!!!
i'm not exactly sure what "hofbrauhaus" stands for but it might as well have stood for "half a bra" because that's exactly what all the pretty waitresses seemed to be wearing as their traditional german dresses left nothing to the imagination. i don't think i've seen that much cleavage since my bachelor party at the strip club. not one ugly girl in the house!!!
anyway, if you're looking for something a little different with good food and good fun, i would suggest the hofbrauhaus. enjoy.
