4th pick, who do you take?

Unread postby swerb » Sat Jul 21, 2007 9:42 am

Just drew the 4th pick in my big fantasy football league last night. The pick I didn't want.

The way I see it, there's LDT, LJ, Stephen Jackson ... and then a dropoff.

Gore? Peyton Manning? Shaun Alexander?

16 team league, 2nd round snakes. Combined league that has more of an emphasis on TDs than yardage.

Im thinking option 1 is try and trade down. Option 2 - Peyton Manning.

I wouldn't touch Manning that early unless you get minimum of 6 pts for a passing TD (opposed to the standard 4), or even something wild like points fo completions.

If it's TD heavy, Alexander is tough to pass up there. Gore should get plenty, but his period of goal line issues last season makes me a bit nervous.

If anything, I'd try and move down a few spots - take one of the abovementioned or even someone like (gulp) Willie Parker (16 TDs last year).

18 years of fantasy football, never one Steeler or Raven.

I just can't go there. Its just not worth it to me.

Sweb- I Really like Gore with that 4th pick. I am not saying he will outproduce S Jackson, but they will be in the same ballpark.

My bad.

Name the last time he got a starters workload and survived consecutive seasons.

2005 - 1 start, 14 games played. 9 carries a game.

I am not saying he is talented, but guys that get hurt usually continue tog et hurt. To take him 4th overall, especially in a 16 team league is dengerous. Your 2nd back is going to be (according to your ratings) an under 1000 yard rusher with a half a dozen TD's. Your first back better play 16 games or your season is over/ Just too big of a risk.

Go safe, take Manning and trust yourself to find a 2nd back in the 4/5.

Hey Swerb, any chance you can let us know more about your league format. how many RBs do you start? do QBs get 6 pts per TD? With 16 teams, if you start 2 RBs a week you need to get a RB at 4. Maybe one of the 3 you mentioned will slip. I still like SA this year and I think he is being underrated. He should get more TDs than Gore this year as well (as Sargent allued to Gore's goalline problems last year).

6 point bonus for over 40
6 point bonus for RB catching/throwing TD, QB running/catching TD, reciever running/throwing TD.

5 points for every 50 yards over 100.

so someone like westbrook or bush would get 12 points for a receiving TD? very intriguing. given addai's likely use in the passing game, he may be worth the fourth pick...

Do QBs get the yardage bonus per TD thrown?

3 point bonus if it is between 11-39
6 point bonus for over 40

If they do then Manning is a nice pick at 4. That is a very TD heavy league. Cant go wrong with a feature RB there though as well (Gore, Alexander, Addai).

Yes, all TD's get the bonus.

A 20 yard TD pass is worth 9.
A 20 yard TD run is worth 9.

I think you should go Gore...Alexander as your second option.

In a 16 team league, if you go Manning with your 4th pick, you will be screwed as far as RB's go...especially if its a "snake style" draft format (ie picking 29th or whatever with your 2nd pick).
