An article ought to be able to infer its theme, either from a database or a flat file. Use a simple "lookup" function, feeding article number as a parameter, and you should be able to get the theme. That way you can avoid passing it as an argument to the php script and the URLs will be a little more manageable (and less awkward). Mail me if this isn't clear.
