Jumping to Unread posts

Unread postby dmiles » Tue Jul 31, 2007 6:06 pm

A "Find New" button for a thread.

I have been on a couple of boards where just outside a thread there is a new button, and I don't think I see one here. This would help on things like a multipage thread where clicking Find Unread or something would take you to the first post that has the orange, unread marker. Not sure if this software provides that option as a configuration or it's a customization.

Just an FYI, but all unread posts have an orange "notepad" next to it. In thread as well.

Consig, I know about the orange note, and that is what I use. However many boards have this orange note, and some have this option called "View first Unread post". However that seems to be a different type of software.

Many boards I have use that, which leads me to believe it's a configurable item rather than a customization, however, those sites seem to be using a different application and if it's not easily configurable, don't sweat it.

One site I frequent is Mike Boyle's site as I train my son's into professional athletes   and Mike's Forum seems to be the same app as this site. They also do not have the "View first unread post" option. So either it isn't there, or it isn't turned on by default.

There is a feature I asked for because I didn't see it, but turns out to be quite useful: by clicking on the "page with arrow" next to the Last Post on the far right of the thread lists, you can go directly to the end of the thread. This isn't doing exactly what you want (you have to scroll up until you recognize what you've last read), but it beats starting at the top.

This is a standard function in phpBB.

For threads that have new posts, not only does the color change for the button in the left hand column of the list of threads, but an icon shows up immediately left of the thread title:

Click on that icon, and it'll take you straight to the newest post.

Cool. Thanks. I actually never knew that, as I would just scroll until I saw the yellow-orange indicator.
