not staying logged in

I sort of have this same problem. My desktop at home and at work keep me logged in.....however, my laptop never does. Any suggestions Rich? Can a patch be uploaded by Stevie D to fix?

my desktop at work isn't keeping me logged in, but my laptop is.

same browser on both. older OS on the laptop though.

I have to believe this is simple cookie management. I defer to DiFranco, who has seen a lot more than I have, but that's gotta be the login mechanism at some level. (FWIW, I have never had a problem after the initial stabilization period.)

I have to re-log in everytime i come to the site.

Little annoying, but I can live with it...

Alright, now that we installed this patch ... if you clear out your cookies, then log back in ... you should stay logged in.

I will eventually get my hands around it, and thanks for the patience ... I know it's a pain in the ass.

Long story short, we're using the most updated beta version of these boards, where the troubleshooting on some issues is not 100% functional.

Swerb, mine is all F'd up. It makes me log in everytime now. But if Im not logged in and I want to "quote" someone (while Im not logged in) it takes me back to the main forum and Im logged in all of a sudden.

Steve, that's odd, because this specific problem was addressed by the webmaster last week.

Basically there's something about Unix / Apache that is written so that when searching for something, if it ends in a letter (/boards) the server looks for a file named boards, but if it ends in a slash (/boards/) then it knows to look for a directory called boards. When it looks for a file and doesn't find it, it starts going through the root directory and URL, and that's where the server switches to swerbsblurbs.com...

There are other bits involved, but they're technical and I don't really know how they work, so I won't try to explain as I'm likely to get it wrong. Suffice it to say, the best solution is to use a trailing slash, as it means that you won't get into these crazy rewriting rules.

The webmaster has coded the front page link to lead to a directory, now (with the slash), and I wonder if you've got cached versions of the page in your history directory on your own computer that don't have the slash - please clear your cookies and cache and check this behaviour again.
