I'm actually on board with 7 as a reasonable prediction. The schedule on paper doesn't look overwhelming at this point (but as the season goes on who knows right?), I mean I don't see 3 for sure losses in a row anywhere on there for now. For me the first 5 games are crucial, in terms of building confidence and not shitting the bed. Not unreasonable for us to be 3-2.

All of that ^ is of course barring any major injuries or extreme set of unfortunate breaks that even we don't normally have dealt our way.

I see seven wins.

The AFC North is not the powerhouse division it used to be. The Steelers and Ravens aren't as good as they were last year and Cincinnati is not as good as they think they are.

Now I'm thinking a slide of 2 - 3 may be in order.

We've won 4-5 games 8 of the last 10 years.

I've had it with this team. We've got no offense, we've got no defense, OUR LINEBACKER'S LUNGS ARE FALLIN OFF!

4-12 or 5-11.

(Though, I suppose our best chance at a step forward comes in the form of Phil Savage's handpicked HC successor, which is actually a pretty good chance, I guess, since Phil Savage is still awesome.)

Phil & I have hired Tom as our chauffeur, actually, which you'd think would be awkward but isn't at all.

I pray I'm wrong, but this looks like another 4-5 win season, with people talking Tajh Boyd before Halloween.

Week one will be telling.

You guys all root for Buffalo? Tom leans more toward the Broncos or Eagles?

Tom often gets upset when Phil & I sit in the back giggling at his little chauffeur hat, because he feels kind of left out, you know? So when Phil tells him to go root for Buffalo, Tom likes to turn it around and say, "Buffalo...Trace, maybe!" It's his one joke, and he's very proud of it, so we laugh politely every time. And yes, a breathalyzer engine starter for Tom goes without saying.

5-11 and probably missing out on the top QB's with Oakland and Jacksonville looking terrible. Maybe they'll luck out and Clowney will drop to them. The carousel of suck will continue for the foreseeable future.

PIT W (Moral Victory)
JAC W (The meaningless victory that prevents us from getting a franchise QB)
@NE L (Hoyer is the QB at this point.)
CHI L (First locally blacked out game in the new era)
NYJ W (the meaningless victory that prevents us from landing Clowney)
@PIT L (Go Cavs!)

WE get off the 4 or 5 win carousel since 2007 and go 6-10....a tremendous success.

I know it won't be talked about much but I think the signing of Billy Cundiff was highly symbolic. We always had one of the best if not the best place kicker the last several years. I understand he couldn't be kept on the team, but we willfully signed without question the worst kicker in the league the last two seasons. We did it on purpose. I'm wondering what horrible injury befell Shayne Graham this pre-season that necessitated his release?? I'm not that smart but I can look on internet pages and see Graham is 37 for 45 the last two years whereas Cundiff is 35 for 49. I see Graham was 3 for 3 this pre season, and read he's the 3rd most accurate kicker in NFL history.

yeah, I know just kickers, but still. I don't get it.

Pretty sure Graham is hurt. Which lead to them having to use the punter in the last preseason game. You want to find out Sunday at noon our kicker is hurt? I don't.

Also, Cundiff is a top 5 kicker the last couple of years in touchback percentage with nearly 60% of them not being returned. Maybe the plan is to give Graham a couple of weeks to get his back squared away and then Cundiff sticks around to handle kick offs?

All depends on Weeds.

Look, I know he's not ever going to be Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, or Playoff Eli Manning. (or Andrew Luck 5 years from now..)

but, If he can just turn in a few performances that are say, like Matt Schaub or Matt Ryan..I think that helps the team and is able to at least get us in the conversation for the playoffs.

There's talent on the roster. There's talent on the sidelines. There's nothing else you can possibly point to and say "Well, it's not his fault..he doesn't have X". It's on him.

I think the first game sets the tone for the season. If you're able to get a "W" in something that the Browns historically screw up? You've got something, and maybe we're talking 8-8/7-9, and we're not having draft talk in November. On paper the Browns are a better team than the Dolphins. I also believe that Weeds is a better QB than Tannehill. So it's on him.

If the team gets blown out or we see a Dwayne Rudd like occurrence? Than yeah, forget it. We're going 5 and 11, and we're all going to be talking if we can somehow leapfrog the Jets, Raiders or whatever other dumpster fire is ahead of us to land Ted.

I'm going with the latter. I think the team will find a way to fuck up the 'Phins game in some hilarious typical Browns like fashion.

5-11 (and just out of reach for that franchise QB!) here we come.

The season total lines have been pretty much pounded into shape by the pros at this point - it's essentially vig on a coin flip right now.....however, if I had to bet one total right now I think it's the Browns under at 7.

Very likely the 4th place team in the division, and the 4th place team in the division ain't going 8-8.

The schedule, the QB, being 3 games better is a pretty large jump, and the fact their offense was EXTREMELY healthy all last season.....
