I almost feel kind of good about this. Now I don't have to give a shirt at all about anything the Browns do. They are beyond hope.

If at some point, whether it be in a year, five years twenty years, they get luckynand bumboefuckmtheir way into not completely sucking, ill be back.

But 16 Sundays just opened up completely for me. So that's hard to beat.

The Lombardi part is scary, I definitely agree.

The Chud part is unknown...I certainly wasn't thinking of him as a serious candidate, but I'll withhold judgment.

Norv as offensive coordinator, if that's what happens - that doesn't bother me. He has always had a rep as a terrific coordinator who just isn't a head coach. Hopefully Chud doesn't earn himself a similar rep.

I'm not going to start complaining about Chud as HC until he gives a reason to. There just wasn't anyone else left that I was excited enough about to be disappointed with this hire.

As anything, it's too early to tell and you never know. But this Chud hire isn't full of strictly negatives.

He has a better reputation as an offensive mind than Shurmur did/does.

Childress's rep as a coordinator doesn't touch Norv's. Childress never even called his own plays before he was a head coach. Norv as an offensive coordinator just doesn't seem like a bad thing at all to me.

Whatever Childress did for Reid he managed to be a top head coaching candidate every year for a good while.

And Norv hasn't been a true OC since about 1920, but let's look at his last three OC stops:

In 2006 Norv failed to put up 270 points in SF (last in his division).

In 2003 Norv put up 268 points with the Dolphins (third in his division).

In 2002 Norv put up 378 points with the Dolphins (third in his division).

In 2001 Norv put up 332 points with the Changes (third in his division).

Do I need to go back to the early 90's?

The point is the guy hasn't accomplished anything as an OC worth a damn since the early 90's. To trumpet him as some saving measure is really grasping at a lot of *IF I WISH REAL HARD IT'LL COME TRUE!!!!!*

One of my professors at NYU's claim to fame was directing CHUD Part 2.

Wonder if he had anything to do with this.

It's a meh hire, but they all were. I was starting to warm on Zim, even though this team desperately needs a keen offensive mind and Jauron has shown they can be decent on defense even with amediocre DC.

Chud headed the only Cleveland O that finished above 33rd, has had decent O's in SD and CAR. Norv comes in as the OC, Norv is actually GOOD as OC. So I see Norv as a plus.

Still, didn't see this one coming any more than the Shur hire. Not sure what the rush was. Don't see how he could be worse than Shur though.

As the initial surprise wears off - surprise which comes as much from the fact that they hired Chud so quickly as opposed to just being shocked that it was him - I'm feeling the same way. Far from a sure thing, but there wasn't a sure thing out there. I feel better about this hire than I ever felt about Shurmur. Although the thought of switching to a 3-4 definitely is a red flag. Hopefully that was just Mary Kay speculation that doesn't have any real base in fact.

I dare you to ask any Panther's fan about Chud's prospects as a head coach. He wasn't just disliked down there, he was despised....

And if he didn't have Cam figuring thing out and overcoming his shitty play-calling for the last half of the season he wouldn't even have gotten an interview.

It's a "meh" hire that will define new ownership. In two years, Haslem will either look like a genius, or it will be proven Cleveland is a Black Hole of Suck that even new ownership can not escape.

Anyone saying this is worse that what we had wasn't paying attention the past two years.

I'm encouraged by the fact that we hired an experienced offensive coach who is immediately bringing in an experienced offensive coordinator. Much, much different than Paddycakes bringing Chilly in a year and a half too late and then still calling his own plays.

3-4 vs 4-3? A little early in the game to say that. Especially when MKC is the "source."

Chud was unexpected, and he probably wasn't the first choice on their list, but he's far from the worst option that they interviewed. I'm not printing playoff tickets or anything, but I'm not ready to Occupy Berea either. The overly negative reaction here and on the twitter was pretty much inevitable regardless of the hire. So everyone get it out, hit a pillow and get it over with.

Did they just hire a guy as HC that they fired as OC 4 years ago because of his offensive coaching background?

In a nutshell is that what this organization just did? And yeah, I know four years ago was 6 regimes ago and it's hard to keep track, but will a historian tell me they hired as HC a guy they fired four years ago as OC (but who they paid through last year)?
