New Ownership - My Take On It

Unread postby jcoke22 » Fri Aug 03, 2012 4:18 am

Posting late night from work...

It's refreshing to know that Randy does know when to cut ties with a team he really had no interest in. We all know he would rather watch Aston Villa than the Browns. I am just glad that it happened now than half way through the season (especially if the team is struggling).

I am happy to hear than Haslem is involved with being one of the "faces" of his franchise, and that we will be able to hear more from him as this purchase takes place. I am not saying I want a Mark Cuban type of owner, but I am happy to see someone that is willing to get infront of the media and a very intelligent fan base to let us know what he is thinking/planning/executing in regards to our Browns.

I also, don't mind that he has (and will have had) a stake in the Squealers. He seems to be very passionate about whatever team he supports. And, why would that be any different when he comes in paying $1 Billion for our Brownies? I think he will fit right in with the rest of us, and we may even see him sit in the Dawg Pound a time or two! (well Ok, maybe that is pushing it)

Maybe he is taking this chance to buy the team that the Steelers hate, just because they wouldnt allow him to be the majority owner in Shittsburgh? Stick it to the Man! You know what I mean?!

Anyway, I am looking forward to this season just a little bit more! As I make my trek up from Columbus on Sundays, I will definately be stopping at the Pilot/Flying J's to fill up instead of the GoAsis :-)!

Go Browns! Full Throttle!

Love him or hate him, Cuban has a ring.

I wish he would buy the Tribe. I'd like to see what he does without a salary cap.

Just when it looked like maybe--just maybe--Randy Lerner was figuring out this hiring thing, he dumps the team.

Don't know how many times I've seen a business get sold, the new owner bring in his "own people" and tear everything apart--including the things that were working.

Hopefully, the new guy will not make any radical changes until the end of the season.

I dont know that throwing 10mil a year at Mike Holmgren to do a job he's never done before and throwing your hands in the air could/should be considered "figuring out this hiring thing"

Well, if you like what Randy did in hiring Holmgren, you should also like this move, because they come from the same place.

The NFL.

They delivered Holmgren to Randy, much in the same way they delivered Haslim.

NFL: Randy, WTF are you doing. Hire a President. His resume starts with the words Mike Holmgren. Give him what he wants so we can have a face for the Browns.

Randy: OK. Can I do it from England?

NFL: Randy, it is time to sell. Start looking for a buy. Maybe this guy?

Randy: Thank god.

This would be a lot funnier if it weren't true.

I like Haslem. He sounds like a businesman, and one who knows how to get shit done, so I'm on board.

He said a lot of nice things today about Holmgren, but I still think Holmgren is gone before the end of the season, if not before Week 1.

Holmgren's only interest right now is saving face and milking as much money out of this deal as he possibly can.

Yes, I am that cynical about Mike Holmgren. Deal with it.

Very True... And a nice one at that... However, I still think the NBA is rigged.

My take, he hasn't won a game yet.

"I'm all about winning." "I will not tolerate losing." "I'm bringing a chanpion to this city to this great fanbase that deserves it so much."

Where have we heard that before?

Oh yeah. Every coach, GM, and owner to come to Cleveland.

Let's review the past owners/coaches, because I did get a different feeling this time.
Owners:
Al Lerner: Escorted the last franchise out of town, kowtowed to Art Modell. Conclusion: I had no faith, was just glad the Browns were back.

Randy Lerner: Never won anything, did anything, accomplished anything, or seemingly contributed to society in a meaningful way. Conclusion: I saw the train wreck coming and was determined to survive it.

Coaches/Front Office Personnel:
Policy/Clark: Much optimisim, turned out they were snake oil salesman. Conclusion: I got fooled, was determined not to get fooled again.

Butch Davis: I think I purposely blanked these years out of my brain, all I remember is bluster followed by me screaming in frustration at the drafting of the Souljah followed by an "eensie weensie" fracture of some kind before Davis tucked his tail between his legs and went crying to his mommy. Conclusion: I spent those years drunk.

Phil Savage/Romeo Crennel: Two people completely in over their heads. Conclusion: Guarded optimisim gave way to cynicism in about a year.

Eric Mangini: Tyrannical Know-it-all who had no capacity for self-reflection and a complete inability to understand an offense needs to score points. Did not understand head-coaching at a fundamental level, preferring to ape Bill Belichick-isms without understanding the underlying reasons behind Belichick's success. So you got all the attitude with none of the winning. Plus, Brian "Fucktard" Daboll, The Worst Offensive Coordinator in the history of the Game (Applied for trademark). Conclusion: Skeptical of this hiring from Day One, initially defended roster purge, was sick of the whole thing by the Bye Week. Can't believe Holmgren kept him around.

Mike Holmgren/Tom Heckert/Pat Shurmur: Holmgren, while successful as a head coach, had failed as a FO guy in Seattle, so I couldn't understand what Lerner saw in Holmgren other than he was the first guy to ask for an interview, so that gave Lerner an opportunity to hire someone and go back to England. Plus he not only allowed Mangini to stay another year, he let him keep TWOCITHOTG (Trademark applied). Heckert seems to be the "blind squirrel finds a nut" item in this whole thing as Heckert appears competent at his job, making very few visible mistakes so far. Shurmur is Romeo Crennel V. 2.0 complete with the overwhelmed looks on the sideline and the "What just happened?" look on his face appearing frequently. Conclusion: Waiting/hoping for security to escort Holmgren out of the building. Over/under on Shurmur getting fired is Week 13.

Haslem: Took a successful business and made it bigger and better, so he's accomplished something. Bought into the Steelers and knows how a successful football organization is run. Says he will study under Robert Kraft in the coming weeks. Plus, he definitely WANTS to be an NFL owner. Conclusion: How can this NOT be an improvement?

While this news did generate more than usual interest I have to say, when we have one more ring than you know who give me a holler. I am weary of getting worked up over the next savior and then being smashed down. I will continue to have Browns games on as background noise as I enjoy NFL football at my favorite watering hole. :hide:

I am a simpleton and I am trying to sort it out.....

* Randy sucks as an owner ( Browns).

* Randy's soccer team is losing money.

* NFL teams make money hand over fists.

*Randy's NFL team is worth a billion .

* So sell the cash cow & double down on a mediocre soccer team?

OK. Good for us.

Haslam sounds awful. Another Dan Snyder or senile Alice Davis. This is terrible.

I'll write it again: the negativity on this forum is pervasive.

This guy hit a home run so far. Like BB used to say weekly; "All I know is what I see."
