Yeah, far superior as gauged by the same general public that always elects the far superior political candidates in to office and made Two and a Half Men TV's most watched show of the aughts.

The Browns are most probably one of the five to ten least valuable teams in the league, but with revenue sharing, etc, it doesn't matter. My point of shock is more so that one of the lower third valued franchises in the league is actually still wroth $1B (Forbes had them at what, like 27th and worht $977MM).

The Browns are not a top tier NFL team in terms of value, I'm not saying that.

But the Browns just sold for 40% more than the Jags did because.........? Answer is not revenue sharing, or a Billion dollar stadium.

Saying the Browns do not have a national following is beyond Bostonian.

Isn't the Browns Backers the largest group of its kind in the country?

I've lived in far, far, far more states than just Boston....

The Browns had a national following the in 50s, now no one gives a fuck except people that ran away from Cleveland and want to still follow the team (also a dying breed).

The Browns are no longer a national team, otherwise they would still get MNF games even when they suck. They don't because they aren't that Pat/Steelers/Ravens/Cowboys.

Pretending like they are is beyond clinging to some Ohio Memory of the Browns being relevant nationally in the 50s and 60s.

There are Browns backers in Istanbul.

That doesn't translate to relevance on the field mind you, but to deny the love & following the Browns have nationally is pure stupidity.

Hence Bostonian.

The Browns are not a national draw, period.

I don't give two fucks about the Browns backers or the 1,000 people in NYC that watch them.

The TV Networks, ad networks and everyone else will tell you the truth and they do when the Browns get their token on Thursday night game a year.

A 2-14 Cowboys team still gets national spotlight games, the Browns don't.

Stop living in 19 fucking 60.

PS: A National Fanbase doesn't rank as 20th in terms of overall valuation.

Naive and incorrect (from someone that has lived in plenty of states as well), but par for your agenda.

The average NFL fan cares nothing about the Browns. But the Browns fans - which are spread far and wide - still do. There's a reason that the number of Browns Backers clubs worldwide is way above average.

And that is my point, just having true, diehard Browns fans that exist in small amounts when compared to the NFL Fanbase doesn't in ANY WAY define having a national fanbase.

There is a different between having diehard fans that were born and raised on the shit organization spread around and having a true national fanbase.

The Browns TV numbers suck, for a reason beyond just the fact that they suck.

And BTW: starting with Gen Y the Browns have lost an entire generation of fans in Ohio, let alone nationally. The Browns fan-base is akin to the MLB fan-base old and dying.

The national audience just follows whomever is good. Fix the Browns and suddenly you have national interest to go with your dedicated fanbase. Which makes your potential following much higher than the Jaguars or Buccaneers or Panthers or insert number of other teams here.

When the Browns had their fluke 10-6 season in 2007 they had something like 5 or 6 nationally televised games scheduled for the following year.

The point is:

1) The Browns fan-base is old in the sports spectrum, advertisers don't give two shits about agining fan-bases

2) The national audience does not watch them

3) as was brought up in this thread, the Browns did not sell for a premium because of their fan-base in ANY WAY, which was my original point of contention. The fan-base is a solid North East Ohio draw, but in terms of selling price no one is paying for the fucking Browns Backers when they are miniscule in terms of actual TV viewership.

No shit. He spends 10 months out of the year telling everyone how dumb NFL fan is, now tries to play it off as audience statistics of the NFL represents the true genius of the same people b/c they don't watch Browns games.

^ also too dumb to understand audience statistics as an instrument in the sale of a sports franchise.... the Browns have no national draw right now and the sale price didn't reflect a premium for it.

Fans don't give a shit about sale price, but you'll harp on it just to hear your own gums flap.

I swear you are more disconnected to the concept of what being fan is about more than anyone. You get it wrong every time the general topic comes up.

No dumbfuck, my initial comments in this thread that Pup randomly brought up today were in response to JCoz stating that the Browns sold for a premum because of their national fanbase.

If you read threads you would get that instead of sitting in here arguing a point that you don't even know what it is....

This. Success makes them a national draw. End the shit show and they are one of those teams. Combine the team's (ancient) history and die hard (if dwindling) fan base with a nation of front runners and you have Steelers NW. And the NFL knows it. Hence Fueder's point.

I do get your point, though, and agree. The existence of BB clubs probably bumped the selling price from $999,999,000 to a nice cool billion.

I wouldn't say they are a big national draw, certainly not in the way teams like Dallas and GB and others are, but there is a reason that the second the browns got 10 wins they had double digit national games the next season. Many many other teams in the NFL would not get such treatment for just one decent season in which they didn't even make the playoffs.

I do acknowledge that the browns may be in danger of losing a large portion of their large fan base to old age/death however.

Here you go.

Browns at 21. Ravens at 23 despite being far more successful than the Browns in recent years. Guess you could blame their relatively short existence. Lions at 15 after their "great" season.

Still think a winning Browns team puts them into the top 10. I mean the 'aints are at 7. Doubt they would've been there 10 years ago.

Ah yes, ESPN polling, always a truly great statistic....

The Ravens are one of the three most valuable teams in the league for a reason and that reason doesn't bode with being the 23rd most popular franchise....

I'm not a fan at all of the specific numbers in the list, which people cling to (especially operating profit margins and what not, which are absurd to grab in the manner that they do), but there is a general ability to rely on the franchise valuations at least in terms of stagging some form of a value order.

They've simply reduced themselves to nothing special.

They win, they'll get national games. They lose, they won't - just like any other team.

To think more than a few diehards are sittin' in Cali hopin' the 2-9 Browns are the national game for week 12 is silly. And you can replace "Browns" with any other 2-9 squad. That's the point.

I'll toss this out here.

How many people do you think cared about the Green Bay Packers before Brett Farve came back?

The Detroit Lions prior to Stafford, Megatron and Suh?

They've got a pretty loyal fanbase like those two, but havn't done anything to warrant being a national game as of late.
