Mort: Browns to hire play-calling OC- Childress considered

Didn't see this posted here. Saw a blurb on this today, scrolled during a game.

We knew the Browns were going to hire an OC- but wasn't it supposed to just be someone putting together a game plan? First I've heard of them hiring a play-caller.

And hadn't heard Childress' name come up.

As an OC I'd take him. Even if he looks like the guy with the mouse that got the chair in The Green Mile.

As a HC he and Shurmur are neck and neck. So it makes perfect sense Holmgren would want him here.

I'll tell ya who you're gonna get - someone who can't get a OC position with any other team in the NFL.

Childress and Mike Sherman fit that mold, and they also have the same agent (Bob LaMonte) as Heckert, Holmgren, and Patrick Starfish Shurmur. Since LaMonte is running the Browns for an absentee mouth breathing Randy Lerner, it all makes perfect sense.

Didn't Childress get fired because his team literally fucking HATED him? They're gonna have to widen the doors in Berea so SHUR and Child's ego can fit through the front door.

I wouldn't mind Childress as an OC. He was pretty good for the Eagles and I think he could be a strong pick up... Just as long as he and not Shurmer calls the plays.

Yet another valid reason (IMO) to question Holmgren and his objectivity. Would be nice to imagine someone in the NEO media strapping on a pair and asking some questions about the potential conflict of interest.

I'm not a fan of Childress, but he does have a track record of OC success, which is more than can be said for the current OC.
