You can apply that just as well to Namaths 4000 Lead, other guys had better years that season too. There was another QB breathing down his neck in yardage playing better comp.
IMO, this just hasnt been a very meaningful record, then or now.

Brees broke Manning's record for season completions today as well, fwiw. Also, to echo someone's sentiment about the system he plays in, Graham broke the TE receiving record and Sproles broke the all-purpose yardage record. And the Saints broke the Rams single season yardage record.
As much as I hate to say it, it won't matter for much because they have the propensity to break down in cold weather games. SF and/or GB will be tough for the Saints.
