Tradition since the return

5 years ago, my middle son became a Browns fan.(He is now 13) He used to dig the Jets the most but watching my passion for the Browns on Sundays must have convinced him to switch to the Brown and Orange.

I warned him what he was getting hiumself into. He didnt listen.

The 2nd year of his fandom, he was treated to a stunning 10-6 season. He and I trekked to Cleveland that season and watched our guys down the Texans in a rather easy win. Then the team stumbled ansd missed the playoffs.

Then came the depressing back to earth year followed by the Mangini era.

Today, my son came to me and said he cant wait for Thursday night and the draft. Said it is becoming his favorite time of the football year.


I smiled. He has become a Browns fan!

My son just turned 15 and there was a specific moment I knew he had become a Browns fan. He had always been pretty neutral with the Browns but I took him to the Browns vs KC game in late 2006. That was the one where DA came off the bench to lead two fourth quarter TD drives to tie and then victory in OT. There is nothing like a football stadium going crazy for a Browns win to stir your soul. He has been hooked since.

My son & I are geeked as well for Thursday. I got special dispensation (heh) from his Mom for him to come over. Nice of her actually.

Ex-in laws were from Pbgh and used to buy his Inbred baby crap to mess with me. I'd blatantly throw it away and brainwashed him as if being a Browns' fan was 1950's Chinese communism.

My 10 yr old daughter's only request for Christmas this past year was a Hillis jersey that a 10yr old will out-grow in a year (which might be okay given Hillis's career arc ). They were back ordered and didn't arrive til late February. She sports it as often as it's cleaned and she's peppered me with desperate questions about whether there will be a season or not with panic in her voice.

She and JTA1975's daughter dvr games and watch them multiple times each week.

That's frightening.

I love 'em, but since the return the Tradition has been undending suck so powerful not even light can escape.

Thinking about some fo those seasons makes me want to hang myself.

But come Sundays i'll still throw on the colors and hope. It has to payoff at some point........ right?

No choice for my son either.

My in laws, when I was not around, took my boy's picture with a piss towel on him. I had no idea, until my wife tried to sneak it into one of those digital frames for his first birthday party and she couldn't make it work so I had to help. Gave her the choice of removing that picture or I remove the frame from Earth. It was a battle, because she thinks "I am silly", but good finally won out and the frame got to survive.
