While that quote from SI is noted, it is just a half truth.
Because in the history of winning Browns football you always had a GOOD QB. Those teams won in Nov and Dec back in the day because of Jim Brown and others.....but I think QBs like Kosar, Sipe, Ryan, and Graham had just as much an affect on winning in Nov/Dec.
Yeah, Frank Ryan really carried Jim Brown.
Tony, I concede your point that the Browns were arguably the first QB oriented finesse team with Otto, but in the 60's? NFW.
Ryan and Nelson were more guile than good, moretoughness than talent, more acumen than ability. And to be honest with you, Kosar never ran a Dan Foutes offense. That was a balanced, tough team Marty had, on both sides of the ball.
The Browns' sure nuff need a good QB to finish the package - one a damn site better than Frye & probably DA. But we are talking where to go from a
starting point.
Do you try to build off where we are with a franchise QB? Or a franchise RB? IMhO, you have no choice but to do the latter as the former will more than likely be ruined in the process. The other carry over of having a tough, physical, running team is that the mentality will carry over to the defense, like the Sucklers. We need toughness like Rosie O'Donnell needs laryngitas.
