Cornerback Al Harris is expecting to be released Monday by the Green Bay Packers, he said in a text message to ESPN 540 Milwaukee on Sunday.

"Yes, that is what they are going to do," said Harris, according to the report. "I lost my job to injury, but I have only good things to say about Green Bay and everyone I worked with."

Harris, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, has been on the physically unable to perform list while attempting to come back from multiple knee and leg injuries suffered nearly a year ago. He began practicing with the team on Oct. 19, and Monday is the three-week deadline by which the Packers must release him or place him on the injured reserve list.

With Harris out, Tramon Williams has taken over as the starting cornerback, and undrafted rookie free agent Sam Shields has been the No. 3 cornerback in the team's nickel package.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy did not speak to the Packers' intentions for Harris, according to the report.

"We'll evaluate that tomorrow. We'll go through the film, evaluate our rosters, see these two injuries, see what happens there," McCarthy said, according to the report. We haven't made a decision on Al yet."

Teammate and friend Atari Bigby said it's been difficult for Harris to watch from the sidelines. Bigby himself was activated from the PUP list for Sunday's blowout win over the Dallas Cowboys, while Harris was not.

"I spoke to Al [Friday]. It's killing him," Bigby said, according to the report. "He's very frustrated. Naturally anybody would be. He's been practicing, and of course he wants to play. It's a frustrating situation for him."

"I think he can definitely be a big asset to our team. But I'm not the one who makes the decisions."

Harris has played 12 NFL seasons with the Packers and Eagles. He has 21 career interceptions, including the game-winning "pick six" interception return for a touchdown in the Packers' 2003 overtime playoff win over the Seattle Seahawks.

Hey it's better than naming him Burgertime.

Berzerk would be a good name for a football player.

Galley Boys are slop on top of a so-so burger and a bun you coulde get from a Covneninet food mart generic pack. They the Antoine Joubert of burgers; soft, sloppy, oozing grease and cheap sauce and extremely overrated by a biased fan base. Proof that if you throw enough cheap sauce shit on a burger you still can't overcome the lame burger. -JB

Was he in Philly with Heckert? Walrus got any contact with GB?

If the relationships are in place to get the background info saying he is good to go, take advantage.

Check this out, thought it said AFC North for a min

Al Harris has been released from the Green Bay Packers, and according to ESPN, it was a "big-picture roster decision" on the part of Mike McCarthy.

But ESPN blogger Kevin Seifert has a different idea. Seifert writes, "The Packers didn't have much use for a reserve cornerback who wouldn't be a special-teams contributor and might hinder the development of a younger player."

With good cornerbacks a hot commodity in the NFL, it is hard to believe that the Packers would turn Harris loose if they still believed him to be worth something.

Coach McCarthy had this to say on the matter:

"We feel this is the best path for us," McCarthy said. "There is a lot of different variables involved, and those were all discussed. ... The course we've taken, particularly at corner and the whole secondary, all the players involved, the other responsibilities that the players also have, this is the decision we made."

Now Harris will enter the waivers system, and he believes that he will end up with an NFC North team.

Also need to submit this, this does not sound promising.....

We'll have more on this later Monday when the Packers presumably make it official. But Harris tore the anterior cruciate ligament, the lateral collateral ligament, the IT band, the fibular collateral ligament and the lateral hamstring in his left knee and leg. Rumors around the NFL suggested Harris might have a hard time returning from the injury, but the Packers kept hope until the final moment.

Harris, 36, arrived in Green Bay in a 2003 trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Have none of you watched a Packer game in recent years? Al Harris is the most overrated POS in the NFL.

Consider the Browns secondary talent, depth, and the possible cost of acquisition before coming to conclusions.

But he was always overrated. I watched Brett's entire career there. Every game.

Harris worth a look off waivers? maybe, maybe not. The injury sounds insane.

Harris being a wildly overrated corner does not necessarily preclude him from immediately being in the browns top 3 CB's.
