Its not that the bar is that low, its simply that his play did not hurt us, he didn't throw 9 ints and fumble 4 times. He has moved the team down the field and has looked poised and confident doing it. He now has that first game under his belt, that first int, and that first TD. Look for him to grow into this position and become the QB they so desperately need

I was surprised with his arm strength. He did not throw the ball with the same zip when I saw him in camp or in the pre season. And again, that could be a coonfidence thing too.

He's got an 'it' factor to him. He doesn't know it yet at this level but he's a guy other guys will likely get behind and follow.

I think he needs to play the rest of the season to see what you have. If that means another 2-14 or 3-13 year then so be it. At the end of the year you'll be in better position to gauge whether he's your guy or if the benefit of that 2-14 record means you select a QB.

It'll be easier to watch and feel growth than with some vet QB who may win you a game or 2 more, but you know wont take you to the promised land.

I'm fine with that. I wouldn't expect much more from Jake Delhomme at this point. Seneca Wallace is better, but not so signifcantly better that it's a huge deal.

Plus, we don't know how Seneca looks against Pittsburgh.

In all fairness, you couldn't ask for a worse situation for your first ever NFL start, especially when Josh Cribbs and (to a lesser extent) Mo Mass went out early. That considered, I've seen much worse performances from Browns' QB's (including every single game last year).

So the rule concerning helmet to helmet often gets paraphrased (by media and NFL people) by qualifying the distinction between a helpless WR and a runner...WTF? A WR is a runner once they have the ball. Cribbs was a runner today when he was in a pretty helpless situation as Harrison speared him in the helmet (IIRC Cribbs was wrapped up with momentum clearly taking him down to the ground, or at least halting his forward progress).

The actual wording from one source: "using any part of a players helmet (including the top/crown and forehead/hairline parts) or facemask to butt, spear, or ram an opponent violently or unnecessarily; although such violent or unnecessary use of the helmet is impermissible against any opponent, game officials will give special attention in administering this rule to protect those players who are in virtually defenseless postures."

I see nothing specifying what any ball carrier needs to be "doing" to be considered helpless.
