Jerome Harrison traded to Eagles

Unread postby Ziner » Wed Oct 13, 2010 2:56 pm

So a 3rd string QB, no Hillis, and a new running back with 2 days to learn the offense. This is going to be awful

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... -harrison/

Browns coach Eric Mangini insisted last week that running back Jerome Harrison wasn't in his doghouse. Now Harrison isn't even in Cleveland.

Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports that the Eagles have acquired Harrison for Mike Bell in a swap of disappointing running backs.

The move makes plenty of sense, especially for Philadelphia. They want running backs that can work on the edge and catch the football well. Harrison makes sense as a backup for LeSean McCoy, just like McCoy once made sense as a backup for Brian Westbrook.

In Bell, the Browns get another power running back to play behind Peyton, albeit one that three teams have given up on since 2007. Hopefully he brings the right cleats to Cleveland.

LOL he'll wind up with less yards this entire season than he got in one game against KC last year.

Uh, well, all I know is that Mike Bell suits this offense a helluva lot more than Jerome Harrison.

Harrison has been worse than awful this season. I'll miss his 2010 production like I miss having sex with Cleopatra.

Which means there's nothing to miss.

Better than just flat cutting him, which I would've been fine with as well. Good move, ASAIC.

love this move.

not sure of what Bell will bring to the table, but he seems better fitted for this offense, as said before.

especially with a banged up Hillis, should at the very least take a tiny bit of pressure off colt.

Worth noting Phil Savage must still have the GM's ear in Philly. How many players he has drafted has he gotten them to bring in?

Surprised that's still the case, after the Alex Hall Experience was a flop-aroo.

Bell did lead the Super Bowl champs in rushing last year. Not that that means much, but just sayin'.

NO has missed having Bell around this year. Look what happened when Thomas went down last week- Ladell Betts and Chris Ivory weren't able to do anything. Bell was able to step in and fill in for Reggie and Thomas last year when they both had injury issues.

We'll see how he does with this line and against Pittsburgh. He's only had 16 carries on the year... for 28 yards. When he's gotten carries, he's averaged 4.3 YPC (2006) and 3.8 YPC (2009). The trade definitely makes sense, let's see what he can do.

Word I'm getting is Harrison is stuck at Hopkins as he keeps stopping and starting at the x-ray machine and seems to be incapable of walking through it.

I could've sworn that someone on the Sunday night telecast (SF vs. PHI) said Bell led the Saints in rushing. Maybe it was carries. My bad for listening.

Rushing Stats
Player No Yds Avg Long TD
Pierre Thomas 147 793 5.4 34 6
Mike Bell 172 654 3.8 35 5
Reggie Bush 70 390 5.6 55 5

Not too far off, though...

The only reason I remember Gruden saying it was because I thought "Really?"

This, this, this, and THIS. My first guess is that Mike Bell is James Davis with talent and experience. Also, Jerome no longer fits into the offensive philosophy. Never mind that I'm not a fan of that philosophy, but if we're stuck with it, I'd rather have Bell than Harrison.

This makes sense for both of the players because Harrison did not fit in Mangini's vision (whatever that is) and isn't getting any better when his off tackle runs on 3rd and 4 are telegraphed by Brian Daboll. And Bell doesn't have the best hands coming out of the backfield, so he's not going to fill that role when Philly is sweating McCoy big time.

Does this really help the Browns? Maybe it gets a dissident voice out of the locker room or gets a player who is unhappy with his role off the team. But the sonuvabitch hardly had a shot this year and when the team leaned on him last year, he carried the city for four games.

Is the verdict that Harrison had a fluke streak against shitty / weakened opponents?

He's done as much (little) or more in his career than Harrison has. Maybe a game or two in the Orange and Brown and people will be sucking Mike Bell's pole too for no good reason.

I understand this is Cleveland, but really, we gonna make this a "Would you rather have herpes or genital warts" thing too?

Harrison had years to get a shot well before Hillis was on the scene.

He had chances to gain a shot amongst some horribe backfields.

Unfortunately to get onto the field at that position you need to A. Be able to understand the plays and B. Keep your quarterback from geting killed.

You can let a dumb as a stump Chaun Thompson run around out there and see what happens. You can't do that at the running back position.

He got the chances he earned.

For the 100th time, this'll play out. We'll see what kind of "star" the Browns apparently turned their back on.

I'm assuming you haven't been watching the games.

Harrison made himself a backup. He got the majority of carries against Tampa and KC, and, outside of one run (39 yds), he did nothing, 30 carries for 52 freakin' yards. That's 1.73 yards per carry. Which ain't good.

Hillis just did more with his carries. Anytime you watch the game, it's obvious.

It's totally frustrating because Harrison was good at the end of last year. I don't know what happened to him in the offseason. Why is he now so slow and indecisive and ineffective? Is he hurt? Has he just lost his burst? I don't know. But he's been sucking.

But Harrison got himself benched with his production. He "stifled" his own "talents". He had his chance this year, and he "imploded". What he did last year don't mean a damn thing - if you can't get it done right here and now, then you are useless to the team.

If he was playing like the end-of-2009 JH, then I might be pissed too. But he's not. Not even close.

Exactly Hiko. He blew it. He had his chance(s) and he blew it.

In fact, he's been the most disappointing player on the team this season. Hillis is the only reason we haven't been constantly talking about what a giant, slow, ball of suck he has become. If not for Hillis, the "What's wrong with Jerome" thread was started 3 weeks ago and SoulDawg has already turned it into a "We should have drafted Darryl Clark and Taylor Mays scored a touchdown" thread.

HArrison can piss and moan all he wants about "not knowing his role." You know who doesn't know their role? Players who are underperforming, that's who. You don't hear players who are producing trying to deflect shitty performances to the coach.

He's got nobody to blame but himself.
