Unfortunately, at least for you, JB, my "Semper Fi ass" will remain in the panhandle. Two trips to NOLA in the past month have depleted the war chest and the Chinese government is not buying my bonds. I will be there in spirit as I sit at Pensacola Beach Hooters to observe this illusion we call the Browns.

I can't even begin to look at food or drink and going down there would probably be borderline irresponsible (if it's not even when healthy ).

See how much is in the tank tomorrow but, to put it somewhat nicely, I cann't be standing in lines for rest room time right now.

The man I saw in Muni was onconscious and purple in the face. People around were freaking out and the ambulance didnt arrive until I got back to my tailgate, at least 6-7 minutes later.

Thinkin' the same thing General. I see a purple guy and a bunch of panicked drunks runnin' around the muny, no way am I going to just pass by. Even if I have a disinterest in dislodging the 12 pounds of beer, wings and onion rings surely lodged in there, I'm gonna at least borrow a lawn chair and enjoy the show.

At Swerbs last tailgate, as I was walking out on the sidewalk along the railroad tracks in the back, there was a guy laid out - musta passed out and rapped his head, cause he was bleeding from the noggin' pretty badly. Kinda had a Margerito look to him. But the reaction of his buddies tryin to slap him into some form of alertness, was definitely more funny than alarming.

Seriously though, I'm sure if that cat woulda bought it on Sunday we'd a heard by now.

But yes, I left because I get queezy easily and the man's face was already dark purple and he was passed out, flailing around like a corpse as his friends were giving him the heimlich.

He was my buddy, actually more appropriately my buddies bro-in-law. First Browns game. First tailgate.

Choked on a piece of deer steak. To those that saw him he was as lifeless and purple as anyone I have ever seen. Really chaotic and crazy situation. We tried the heimlich and then procedure for a seizure not knowing if it was either or. EMS showed up after 5 minutes and they were able to finally pull it out, after checking vitals and getting him in the ambulance. He was w/out oxygen for 4 minutes and unconcious for approx. 27 min.

He stayed the night at Lutheran and got out about 4 pm on Monday. Couple broken ribs and a damaged throat but he'll live thankfully.

Big thanks to the paramedics and some of the tailgaters nearby. Police were of no help whatsoever. Fat, lazy, useless wastes. Bob was real lucky to survive. Really lucky.

Truthfully, I can take it all rather light-heartedly now but got to tell you it was fuckin frightening. Bob is a 170 lb. guy and was utterly lifeless. Problem is he walekd away after eating a piece of the steak and we just thought something didn't agree of whatever. We hadn't really drank much but like I said previously first experience for him so didn't know what to think. Did the heimlich and that produced minimal results. I had my buddy call his sister and see if he was allergic. He was frothing and bleeding from his mouth so my thought was seizure, so we put him down on his side and he was able to "barely" breath. We had a plastic knife as a tongue depresser and held his jaw open. When he was laid on his back he began choking a again.

You're right though... horrible thing to witness. Blink of the eye type happening too. EMS had to go deepdown his throat to pull out the steak.

I've performed the heinlich and CPR before but never in the circumstances such as this. This was truly life and death, not talking about someone gasping or giving the choking sign (not to discount the severity of that but), Bob was knocking on the doors so to speak so it's more real than I think anyone there realized unless they saw the situation. Quite sobering to be honest.

19 Action never one to shy away from a story... Got word earlier tonight that Bob is actually gonna be on 19 Action News tomorrow thanking the EMT responders.

I wonder if he has a narrow esophagus b/c that sounds exactly like something that happens with good frequency to people that do have that conditoin. Also if he has acid reflux and narrow esoph it can really become a problem. Certain foods trigger it much more than others as well, steak and any kind of beef being the main culprits do to their texture, pastas and other foods that almost slide down are of no issue. Heimlich probably would be ineffective if that all was the case b/c what happens is a rather large air pocket can develop in the esoph (due to the lower esoph sphincter not working properly)and cause a spasm and until you get rid of the air pocket nothing will get by, not even water.

If a person has this condition and doesn't know it they could easily scare and they would panic, when person knows they have it and realize what is going on when it occurs there is no need for panic and they can often resolve the issue themselves with caution.

Glad to hear he's OK but I'm wondering if anyone hit him in the back on impulse before the heimlick was applied and sent the piece that far down his throat?

Also, like any other lifesaving technique, knowing it and using it properly the first attempt are paramount to its success
