I got to be honest, I think it's a bullshit fine. I can see the penalty at the time because it was so spur of the moment but having watched the play multiple times, I just disagree it was dirty. Ward's trying to make a play in a split second situation.

The league has to be able to recognize that Ward did not lead with the head and if WRs are just going to throw themselves out there they are gonna get tapped.

I could care less if people call Ward's hit "cheap". But for someone to write an article on the AP that's clearly slanted with the language used, that's a joke.

Herm - FWIW, Hines Ward was fined on two consecutive weeks in 2008, once $5,000 and once $10,000, for unnecessary roughness. Interesting thing is the refs didn't call a penalty on either play. (Total Steelers' fines for those two games = $50,000!)

I only know that because I found it while I was looking around for an average "defenseless receiver" hit fine today. Seems $7,500 is the norm, so the league must have thought this one was particularly bad. Kid will be okay if he doesn't become a repeat offender. If he does, well, I just have bad memories of the Jaret Wright "head-hunter" saga.

Not playing "dirty"..but just these division opponents pissed off at us because they got their asses kicked. I've seen a couple videos on youtube about how pretty much every team in the AFC Central had it out for each other and wanted to beat their ass.

Crashing the party, so to speak would just make football around here all the more.
