Mostly because it will make JB sick but partly because I like how it sounds in terms of building a physical reputation. Also Because 'Ron Wolfley & Nails' sounds shitty.

I know. I felt like a gay, junior member of the Browns PR staff when I wrote it.

I think it's just odd to either read or write anything remotely positive about this club.

The masses will suck it up and send me an adoring email though while the discerning board posters flame me for my optimistic gushing.

What can I say? Being there Sunday was enjoyable for the first time in years. And it was the Browns playing the heavy and the villain.

Now that he's working for FOX, former NFL Vice President of Officiating Mike Pereira can say a few things he wouldn't have said a year ago. He feels strongly that Browns safety T.J. Ward should face a steep fine for his hit on Bengals receiver Jordan Shipley.

"Nobody in the league likes to say that somebody took a cheap shot at somebody. But I'm not in the league,'' Pereira told Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. "And I think it was a cheap shot and I think he deserves to be hit and he needs to be hit hard.''

Pereira said there is "no place" in football for that type of hit and he can live with people thinking the league is making an example of Ward.

"I think it's one of the worst I've seen in awhile. I think it's the exact hit that the NFL is trying to get out of the game. There's no intent to tackle," Pereira said.

While Pereira no longer works for the league, his words surely carry weight. And his thinking is probably in line with how the NFL views things.

It's safe to say Ward will be hit plenty hard, even if our PFT readers didn't think Ward took a cheap shot.

Apparently there is no place for a defender to try to jar a ball loose from a reciever with an explosive hit in football anymore. And apparently jarring hits are not forms of tackles. TJ should have squared him up and wrapped him up. Silly TJ.

I guess I am a bit in the minority in thinking that Ward's hit was a penalty in the strict interpretation of the "defenseless receiver" rule. But Pereira is an idiot...he is inarticulate (he makes the referee Jeff Triplette sound like Winston Churchill), and never, and I mean never, thinks an official makes an error. Hell, when he was on the NFL network last year, he even defended the Steeler first down that was clearly short. Anyone who actually takes what he says seriously is a fool.

To be fair, I hardly think the Hillis/Ward angle is a tough one to dig up. But why the PD can't do it before we do is a bit strange. All of us have actual jobs other than this.

Exactly. This guy makes no sense. The only thing I can figure is that Pereira wanted to get back into the spotlight for a few days. Mission fucking accomplished too, unfortunately.

Although, the thought that Pereira is helping make Ward into some sort of badass, hard hitting, thug who could give two shits if someone lives or dies...well, it doesn't make me cringe to have a guy with that rep. So, thanks douche.

Turns out he's leading the AFC North in YPC at 4.9. Me likey. He's also 3rd in the AFC with 3 20+ yard rushes. Can't find any info in YAC (Yards after contact) but I'm sure he'd be near the top there as well.
