Should we call Dante Culpepper?

If released do we make a run at him? I think he is questionable to ever be a great player again, but given the choice between him, Frye and Anderson ever being great, you would have to pick Culpepper.

Culpepper was good with a great receiver to throw to. If we were to sign him, would it then be ok to draft Calvin Johnson?

If the Browns are looking at drafting a QB, any QB at any round, than it would not make any sense. Personally, I think they are going to take Quinn at 3.

I think the Browns could do worse next year (than Culpepper on one leg), for instance, starting Frye.

I am still a Thomas pimp, but there are more holes than the o-line that need plugged. QB is a very big one. I would not be on the Thomas bandwagon as hard if I thought Russell/Quinn were legit.

I'm with Pup here. Plain and simple, I'm a quarterback guy. I think you're fooling yourself if you think you can win consistently without a good one. I'm just not convinced those two guys are worth that pick. I'm also with Pup, in the sense that if they go ahead and draft one of those two, they better be right. I would assume they know quite a bit more than me, so have at it. If I knew right now one of those guys would be a star, than that would be my pick. I'm not sold.

Ew. Culpepper circa 2007 is nothing like the Culpepper circa 2004. His knees may be shot, and that kills his mobility. And I just don't see Culpepper thriving as a pocket passer.

In addition, the knee injuries have limited his ability to push off his back foot during throws, causing his balls to float on him (hmmm... that sounds weird).

I wonder. Would Culpepper throwing to Calvin Johnson, Braylan Edwards and Kellen Winslow be the best possible scenario? Frye or Anderson throwing behind an OL including Thomas? Jamal Lewis and AP sharing the backfield to make the fake handoff more effective for Charlie and DA? I think these are the questions Phil Savage should be (and probably is) asking himself right now.
