Woodson said it is going to take time for Mays to make the adjustment to the NFL. He suggested the public, and media, show patience with Mays.
"I think it's going to take a couple years," Woodson said. "It's still a process. I think what people have to do with all players, including Taylor (Mays), is slow down and let the guy be taught. Until then, let the guy be a rookie. I got eaten up as a rookie. That's just part of being a player."

Christ, if you look hard enough there's someone saying something about everyone. That way they can remind everybody that they got one right some day (never to discuss the hundreds they didn't).

Sure.
Take enough blind swings and you'll eventually hit something. Then you can say, "I hit him with my eyes closed", while neglecting to point out the 400 times you swung and missed.

SD:
MYn comments came from Woodsons comments on NFL Network, he was working with the DB's as Mikes guest.
Mays was then interviewed by Eisen and told about the special comments and glowing praise of woodson.
I maintained all along this kid wasn't coached right.and the scouting reports were nearsighted bias.
Its relevant because we passed on him for an injury prone cohort half his size and speed, when we were in dire need of a difference maker at safety .

OK, but why are you presenting it as if we have some kind of answer now. What Rod Woodson did or didn't say about 2 days of Taylor Mays practices doesn't bring you any closer to vindication. So why the "I told you so" attitude?

But JB believes Soul Dawg could be right. Or, at the very least, that the Browns taking Ward over Mays is also puzzling to JB. That maybe the Browns would have been better off taking a gifted athlete and educating him as to the finer pints of safety play in the NFL. If you're going to have to educate a player you may as well spend your time on an athlete as gifted as special as Mays as opposed to an oft-injured, run supporting saftey like ward.
If the coaching is successful then Mays become a special talent.
JB then encourages Soul Dawg to continue to voice his opinion and to challenge the Browns deep thinkers while not letting posters who think he is full of crap to bother him.
JB also admits he has been wrong himself many times, regardless of which regime or player selection he was addressing.
This is the last one I do for free.

Agreed with your whole translation but this. I coulda sworn JB meant that he has been correct many times where the Browns effed up. Had to read it a few times but that's what I had deduced.jb wrote:Still don't understand tj over mays. Sadly, my draft day acumen has trumped browns too many years, heckgren or no.

Given an inch, you'll take anything a mile to make it mean more than it does. And you think WE out-thought this issue?
Apparently if a TV pundit (and ex-NFL player) says something good about a rookie in practice, that proves the rookie is great.
If Mays has 12 tackles in his first preseason game against the second string offense, does that mean he'll have a spot on the pro bowl team?

I'm well aware that Carol Burnett did a Butch Davis and bypassed his own player .
Butt how many times are we gonna outthink ourselves.
The Wimp in lieu of Ngata .
William Green over Ed Reed or Clinton Portis .
Winslow over the Rapist.etc etc etc .
Since when has Cleveland been so good they can pass on a bonafide out of this world
physical talent and jump on the horse with three legs.
Can no one butt Mike Singletary see the obvious.

Ok well first off--you quoted what I said, but replied to different posters other than me.
Second, hindsight is 20/20, isn't it? There were 48 chances for teams to pick him...did any teams not have a pick in the top 48? I don't remember, but it's probably that every team passed on him at least once.
Thirdly, I like how all of a sudden Mike Singletary is a genius. What if the Jacksonville had taken him? Or Carolina?
As for the "talent out of this world" thing--maybe because sometimes freak of nature athletes don't pan out well if they aren't great football players. I want football players, not just a dude who looks good in gym shorts. He has bad instincts, takes bad routes to the ball etc. etc.
Sweet, he can run really fast in a straight line without pads on...I don't care. He can run like that all he wants, but if it's not the best line to the football he'll be on the practice squad.

Yes, passing on out of this world physical talent is a mortal sin, no matter what the level of actual production.

SD:
Chaun Thompson was drafted off a 0-11 team from tumbleweed U .
He had no football acumen , no acute social setting to handle the highlife and really
was nothing special physically.
Mays OTOH has played on the Worlds biggest stage for one of America;s high profile teams
while flashing an unparralled physical presence unsurpassed in his size to speed ratio.
The kid can deliver a blow , where as our safeties just blow,
Woodson was brought in to refine and tune up all the 49er DB's and show them
handed down secrets that seperated his play from the norm .
and surprise surprise surprise as Gomer Pile would say ,
Mays the proported slug who was supposedly uncoachable took the training
and excelled to the point of rare praise from the HOFamer himself.
In Singletary's World football is still a football.
Take the stud and make him better , nevermind drafting Rudy .

Since the only thing I've ever heard...ever...was what LP said, I can only conclude that SD is making up things that help to prove whatever his point is.
